1500 Sisters of Battle

Postby plan9au » Tue Mar 04, 2008 10:09 am

Holy order of the Crimson Choir

Motto
•Ut incepit fidelis, sic permanet.
Translation: "Loyal she began, and loyal she remains

Simply put the Army theme is fire...The immolators carry the Dominion squad and the sister's squads forward into range, the HQ units deal with any of the enemys heavy hitters and the Seraphim ensure enemy armoured units stay where i want them...faith points of course are used almost solely on Divine guidence

Since i play mainly against Orks and tyranids i found a flamer heavy army works wonders...And i just love the repentia models....Suggestions are welcome of course....

Whoah, hammerhand. :D
I don't quite understand your leadership bubble, you have loads of blokes with the books + vehicles makeing +1 to leadership to push stuff up to 10.
Why not remove most of that and just have the books on the cannoness and somewhere else for leadership 10? IC won't be whitteled down has a jump pack so is likely to go the same places ans the vehicle and jump pack squad.
Your squads are larger than 6 etc, are you going to foot slog them?
I like the dominion squad, i got hit by the guard equivilant a while back...my models are still in the burns unit.
Other folks around here are better at witchs than me, so I'll stop before I say anything more foolish
Barely even lurking..

Any army with a motto is a good one.

The army looks good for hoards, but, if someone turns up with a land raider, this is the sum total of models that can hurt it:

Even predators are going to give you trouble...

Looks a bit scary AT light to me...

More constructively:

The =][= is not well used. 1st off, you have 7 warriors, you are only allowed 3. Second, what are they doing? Third, you are in a world of mixed armour pain. I'd suggest a heavy weapon build, as in most people's experrience they are better & more survivable:
=][= Lord - bolter, carapace (to keep the same majority save), psychic hood
2 x chiruregeons
Accolte, carapace, bolt gun
3 x Heavy bolter warriors
186 points - this squad is very frustrating for your opponent, as it is very hard to kill if you put it in 4+ terrain...

However, from the army I think you'd be better off spending this on sisters rather than Inquisitors.

Why no Exorsists? One of the best tanks in the game - I would always take 2 in a sisters army - your troops are troop killers, therefore your tanks need armour busting.

The sister squads are odd numbers - make 'em even, it's better for scoring.

Repentia, whilst lovelky modelsd with awesome fluff are the worst unit in the WH codex, take 'em if you like, but prepare for dissapointment. For a similar role, try Death Cult Assassins - at least they'll get to combat.

If you are going for hoard death, then a 4 x Heavy Bolter retributer (?) squad would probably be good.

I think your seraphim are a bit small to do anything meaningful.

Oh dear, that's a lot of stuff I'd change! It's not a bad list, but there is froom for improvement.

Ok...first off i am the single worst dice-roller in history so i need all the help i can get, second, i like to have each squad to be able to act independently, so having it's own leadership modifier is important. I need to find my codex as to unit size in transports (but the immolators are used in an infantry support weapons more often than not)...against horde armies i do prefer to wait for the enemy to come to me maximising the total time i have to shot at them...

Ljundhammer, you're right thats what repentia are for (2D6 armour penetration)

Agree with that - I don't think I've ever seen them do anything worthwhile. You _might_ get one or two into combat but they are basically a slow moving, easy target. More seraphim as a replacement would be far more effective I think.

First off sorry that's my layout - that should read 2 Plasma upgrade (not 2 extra warriors) and ill stand corrected on the 5 warriors, but the way i read it allowed me to take the 5....(i gotta find the codex damn it)....i tried the heavy bolter thing but the flamer templates do more damage overall IMHO...Ill take the advice on the Inquistor, he hasn't really lived up to the pointcost....maybe i can fit that retribution squad in after all...as for the exorcist's i agree one of the best tanks in the game, but not available as a model in Oz (cant/wont pay forgeworld prices + postage)...The seraphim have proven there worth if only to see that annoying fleeing unit off the table. And the assasin is a little beardy for me, i wanted something different and at least if they get shot up they leave the rest of my force alone.....lol....

Causes a lot of problems - the codex says you can take up to 3 of each type of henchmen, people read this as 3 gun servitors & 3 warriors, but they all count as warriors in the henchmen page.

plan9au wrote: i tried the heavy bolter thing but the flamer templates do more damage overall IMHO...Ill take the advice on the Inquistor, he hasn't really lived up to the pointcost....

He'll never be a unit destroyer on his own, but he can thin down squads before you assault, which makes him v. handy. The problem with short range waepons is that once you get near combat you are dead. Poor strength, I, T & armour save (4+ doesn't cut it) & low numbers mean the squad only gets one round of shooting. At least he can whether a firestorm for the HB set-up.

plan9au wrote: maybe i can fit that retribution squad in after all....

The faith makes them nice (re-roll stuff & rending offf the top of my head)

I use whirlwinds - nicer models & a good proxy, as nothing else looks like them.

If the seraphim work for you - keep using them, I would increase numbers (& another squad - as they are point-for-point one of the best assault units in the game).

Assassins aren't beardy! :x

Well, this list would be torn to shreds on warseer. As luck would have it you are here instead!
It's good to see a different list and more power to you for it!
But, I would try to squeeze an exorcist or multi melta retributer squad in for some more anti tank. Maybe swap an immolator flamers for multi meltas. I know you are trying to get the repentia in combat with tanks, but as others have said, you will have difficulty achieving that so I wouldn't try to use them that way. I would plow them into targets such as dreadnoughts and carnifexs, and have a little faith in the dice!

Are MM retributers any good? I've often thought about 4 x mm for SM devestators, but I cant get a handel on how to play them...

The range of the mm is the problem, certainly for static dev squads. Vehicle mounted/transported is the way to go with them I think as you can get them where they need to be and mitigate the range issue.

I use a squad of ten retributers with 4 multi meltas. I upgrade to veteran sister to get an extra faith point. The unit gets deployed 12 inches forward in the middle to try and cover as much as the board as possible. Hopefully a piece of terrain will be available to put them in for cover saves. This is a little simplistic and will of course be adapted by your mission, terrain and objectives.
You need ten girls to absorb the inevitable attention this unit will receive. A book of st lucius will hold the girls in place and (as the girls are in the centre) provide the bonus to anything else around. Don't be tempted to martyr the vet for the faith point. You need her and her leadership to hold the girls in line.

The general idea is to cover the centre of the board and/or cover objectives, persuading walkers, MC's and assault vehicles to stay back.
To protect against assaults, assassins, arco flagellents or (if you feel lucky) repentia can be positioned for a counter charge.

Well that certainly makes them the focal point for both you and your opponent, especially if they are right up there leading from the front. They still sound vulnerable to me but I guess a lot of it is going to depend on the terrain you have.

Never let it be said i dont listen to advice....Since this is the army i wish to run at a local tournament i needed (obviously to others) re-do the list so i present attempt 2....Still no Exorcists as the event is WYSIWYG so no subs allowed (damn) my Repentia and my custom inquisitor lord made good trade to a friend for some spare sisters/seraphim and a retribution squad (yay...cash may have been involved). The AT advice really helped so thank you for that i hope ive fixed that issue....any more help/critisim....glad for any i can get, i just dont want to have to use my chaos again....
