Hey all :)

im considering bringing another army with me for the WHW meet-up, for Mr Ruffian to use my Genestealer Cult homebrew listagainst. i wrote this a little while ago - it uses models from my IG (Steel Legion style) army:

Code: Select all
Imperial Guard "Ash Wastes Defenders" Combat Patrol - Magdra Prime
[400 Pts Army List]

Doctrines:
Iron Discipline
Close Order Drill

Command Squad [5 models + Transport = 112 pts + 103 pts]
Junior Officer: Power Weapon, Plasma Pistol, Frag Grenades, Doctrine: Iron Discipline
Veteran Sergeant: Chainsword, Plasma Pistol, Medi-pack
3 Guardsmen: Plasma Guns
Doctrine: Close Order Drill
Chimera: Multi-laser, Heavy Bolter, Pintle Mounted Storm Bolter, Extra Armour, Smoke Launchers

Infantry Squad #1 [10 models = 102 pts]
Veteran Sergeant: Chainsword, Plasma Pistol, Frag Grenades
6 Guardsmen: Lasguns
1 Guardsman: Plasma Gun
2 Guardsmen: Autocannon
Doctrine: Close Order Drill

Infantry Squad #2 [10 models =  83 pts]
Sergeant & 6 Guardsmen: Lasguns
1 Guardsman: Grenade Launcher
2 Guardsmen: Missile Launcher
Doctrine: Close Order Drill

thoughts? :?:

cheers :)

It doesn't look bad. You have plenty of heavy fire support from the Chimera and Infantry Squads.

You may want to consider switching one of the Plasma Guns in the Command Squad for a Flamer just to gain a little more hoadre control with the unit. It might also be useful to be able to thin an enemy unit if you intend to charge into combat with the unit. Along that line of though, what do you think about replacing the other two Plasma Guns with Metlaguns? Then the entire unit will be able to shoot and charge, and it will still pack a punch in shooting.

With this, the Command Squad would become more of a mobile short-range fire unit, with the Infantry Squads providing long range support.

I'm crap with guard..others specialise in em..
but I would say don't forget abuot 5th ed rules vs that chimera. If it moves it can only shoot big gun+storm bolter (takes a away most of the ways people used to use them as zooming fire support). In CC its hit on rear armour (I ran some mathhammer on that if you want me to stick it here).
I'll let the guard experts work out if you can skim a further few points and if its worth something like swapping it for 3 multi laser sentinals or somthing :D

cant do either im afraid: i only have Plasma Guns and a couple of Grenade Launchers. im not even sure if they made any other Special Weapons for the Steel Legion range. :(

equipment wise, im stuck with what its got, due to WYSIWYG (IIRC i built it in 2nd ed LOL) - otherwise i would consider dropping the hull weapon (HB). still, it keeps my options open: i can stay back and shoot everything, or move and still pump out 5 shots.

yeah, i will have to keep it out of CC range of basically everything. :(

its the only Vehicle i have for my Guard that can be taken in CP. if i didnt take it, i could take more Infantry (poss Hardened Vets w/the same models), but thats about it. ive used the list against Kate (4th ed), and i enjoyed the mobility it offered my "plasma-squad-of-doom", allowing them to speed forward to neutralise threats (Jetbikes, for example). besides, i want to give the Genestealer Cult something to test their Rocket Launchers against. ;)

now all i have to do is work out how im going to transport it all... (figure case is already full). oh, and i need to finally stick the Medi-pack Sgt together and undercoat him (in early 3rd ed i could give the Medi-pack guy a Plasma Gun, but when the 2nd codex came out this option went, so he has to downsize to a Plasma Pistol - i bought the model ages ago and i still havent built him ).

cheers :)
