Blood Ravens Orbital Drop Specialists

Postby Ph4lanx » Sun Dec 27, 2009 8:17 pm

The basic idea is to deploy where the punch is needed most, with the ability for the Fast Attack option to put out either bodies, or specialist troops (Assault Squad or Vanguard Squad):

Code: Select all
The Raven's Talon
Blood Ravens Orbital Drop Specialists
"Death from above!"

HQ      Captain-Librarian 'Phalanx'
      Terminator Armour
      Storm Shield
(1 Unit)      140 Points

HQ      Captain 'Aegius'
      "Forgefather Vulkan He'stan" Rules
(1 Unit)      190 Points

Troops      Tactical Squad 'Tarkus'
      Boltgun & Power Fist (Sergeant)
      Multi-Melta
      Flamer
      Drop Pod with Locator Beacon
(10 Units)      240 Points

Troops      Tactical Squad 'Hyrcleon'
      Boltgun & Power Fist (Sergeant)
      Multi-Melta
      Flamer
      Drop Pod with Locator Beacon
(10 Units)      240 Points

Elites      Ironclad Dreadnought 'Thule'
      Heavy Flamer
      Drop Pod with Locator Beacon
(1 Unit)      190 Points

Elites      Terminator Assault Squad 'Karolus'
      10 x Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield
(10 Units)      400 Points

Elites      Sternguard Veteran Squad 'Trythios'
      Combi-Melta & Power Fist (Sergeant)
      2 x Heavy Flamer
      5 x Combi-Melta
      2 x Combi-Plasma
      Drop Pod with Locator Beacon
(10 Units)      380 Points

Fast Attack      Assault Squad 'Thaddeus'
Bolt Pistol & Thunder Hammer (Sergeant)
(10 Units)      220 Points

Fast Attack      Vanguard Veteran Squad 'Thaddeus'
(Alternative      Jump Packs
Fast Attack      Relic Blade (Sergeant)
Squad)      2 x Power Weapon
(5 Units)      220 Points

Total      2,000 Points

The Blood Ravens would be supported in Apocalypse games by some heavy weaponry:

Code: Select all
Rolling Thunder
Harakoni Warhawks 89th Armoured Support Group
"The Four Horsemen have your six!"

      Shadowsword 'Conquest'
      Command Tank
      Hull-mounted Twin-Linked Heavy Bolter
(1 Unit)      500 Points

      Hellhammer 'Famine'
(1 Unit)      500 Points

      Stormlord 'Death'
(1 Unit)      500 Points

      Baneblade 'War'
(1 Unit)      500 Points

Total      2,000 Points

im liking both the lists mate.

for the Blood Ravens list, looks good. Im not a list warrior (im sure someone will be along, kmb?) but to me it looks balanced with the right elements. 'Íf' it was my list i would negate the vanguard and use some landspeeders/bikes with HBs or MMs to deliver a fast anti inf/armour punch. You have enough CC guys there to handle mobs, esp 10 termies :P

I didnt see transport for your termies but i take it the sternguard come in first turn then lace the locator beacon?

nothing against the BB varients, i have two and yet more myself to come :P

Yeah anything deep striking without a drop pod will use the locator beacons for control in terms of precision landings. That's the idea anyway ;)

Thats some sexy heavy support there :O
Is it a done list(pics?), or is it a WIP which can be fiddled around with?
I'd second most of the stuff boris said.
Am I right that your libby has the gate+ something like nullzone (other wise I can't make head nor tail of the HQs and elites) Fluff says he should be an episolery ;) (tactics meh)
but then I'd be going for the shooty menace of early codex rather than the he'stan build.. Why have a DSing homed termie CC unit.. They can't do anything when they do land accurately I'd either go shooty (non he'stan) or stick them in a landraider..
Apart from the sternguard you have a lot of "if it survives a turn in the fire it will do X,Y and you will cry" (the assualt marines are a good example) and your opponent has 1500 points more than you pointed at each wave (possibly smoked, certainly turbo'd or moving fast in its free turns) as it turns up.I thought pod armies were more instant/fire..but I haven't faced one in a while.
You have the potential to hurt 2 vehicles turn 1 (maybe a 3rd with the plas) its not enough when you need those units to survive in the heavily meched up environment that is 5th ed, you want to crack the shell then eat the nuts inside :D
How has it worked so far for you?
Will your opponents let you take the lucius drop dread upgrade.. so he can assualt into safety? s'only 15 points.
Barely even lurking..

You need moar super heavies! :P

(if you hadn't guessed from my gallery pics, I have a thing for super heavies/tanks - I have 7 super heavies for my IG at present, plus a Choas Warhound and an Eldar Vampire Raider, and I won't go into the specifics of IG tanks but I have enough to field at least 4 tank companies ...)

I'm working on painting up the army at the moment. It is finished pretty much. The Super-Heavy tanks are seconded to the Blood Ravens as their history has a long-standing relationship with the AdMech, so they were given these tanks on long-term loan (hence they have the colour scheme of BR mixed in with Harakoni Warhawks). I'll get some pictures up when things are painted (shouldn't take long!).

I'm going to add this to my personal list of famous last words!
I have said the same thing many times (shouldn't take long!) but for me at least, it always does. :D
