History and origins.
The Striking Tigers originate from the world of Colcherarium in the zuri sector and the feroo sub-sector. Colcherarium is full of oceans and high mountain ranges, therefore it is difficult too operate an army without the use of grav-chutes; therefore the 498th Striking Tigers are used too dropping down from an aircraft via grav-chute. They use their ability well in a battle field and are a veteran drop-troop regiment. Obviously they have few tanks because of them dropping in.
One of the many differences between the 498th Striking Tigers and other drop-troop regiments is that their way of war is classic Imperial Guard: overwhelm the enemy through sheer brute force and numbers. They are often deployed in a “fighting drop” where they deploy very near but behind enemy lines, this is obviously very risky and often the main casualties are received during the drop, as many drop-ships are shot down before they can deploy their troops. It is a very tough job and if you survive more than 5 drops you are moved into a special company of veterans, these men are fully mounted in Valkyriers. The 498th Striking Tigers where founded in the year 35,000 by Zurike Wilson, who passed the regiment down to his sons and is now commanded by William Wilson who is a hero throughout the Imperium for many reasons; one of these is his heroic defence of his home world. He had two companies of men and held of a small Tyranid splinter fleet until reinforcements reached them.
