From my experience Ive found dark lance to be a waste of time, but I think that being able to have different builds is one of the strengths of the
DE list. The fact we both champion different loadouts and both have success with them is a good thing.
Have a go with both Bane and see which is more suited to your gaming area. But for long range AT you do have Scourges with haywire blasters (12" move and 18" range), jetbikes with heat lances, true you do need a turn to get into position and trueborn with blasters in a venom.
The list I took to throne of skulls where I placed top third was
HQThe Baron
Hammie with webway portal
Troops
3 Wracks
10 Warriors, Champ, S.Cannon, Blaster, Raider, Night Sheilds, Flicker Field
9 Wyches, Champ, Agoniser, Haywire Grenades, Raider, NS, FF
10 Wyches, Champ, Agoniser, Haywire Grenades
5 Wyches, Shardnet, Haywire Grenades, Venom, S.Cannon, NS
11 Hellion, Champ, Agoniser
Elite
4 Trueborn, 4 Blasters, Venom, S.Cannon, FF
Heavy Support
2 Ravagers, Dissies, NS, FF
Razorwing, S.Cannon, Dark Lances, NS, FF
The Hammie is there for 3 reasons; carry the webway, give his pain token to the 9 wyches he depolys with and make the 30 point unit of wracks troops who sit on any objective in my deployment zone.
The Baron is amazing for his points and Im a big fan of hellions, the fact he makes them troops is a big boon as well.
The 5 wyches in a venom is my anti dreadnought unit. Ive always found dreadies to be a pain so I use this unit to hold them up. They charge in, have a go with haywire grenades but if they dont do anything the dreadnought loses an attack and they have a 4+ dodge if the attack hits. Plus it gives me another venom.
The Razorwing (forgot I have that eariler so my total dark lances in the army is 4), is an all rounder but Ive found it very hit and miss but the model is so good and its a great psychological tool as the model is quite large people see it as a bigger threat than it is and shoot lots of firepower at it.
There isn't really any bad units in the
DE list (maybe mandrakes) but its using them together is the key to get powerful combos.
Your list seems light on troops but that might be because I like to go troop heavy. Im guessing the Duke goes with the trueborn with shardcarbines?
