to be honest, i tend to blank out the LoTR when i think of the GW range (ever since we were told how naughty it was to mix bits between the ranges ). there is/used to be a great WHFB giant spider, but that looked more like a tarantula. i will take a look at the LoTR spiders though, just as soon as the page finishes loading.

cheers for the suggestion!

Does it have to be GW tourney legal?

If not then I would get one or two of these:

and go for something from the Nids list with a synapse boss.

SST arachnids are a good idea as well, forgot about them.

im not worried about tournament legality per se, but i only really collect GW models. the LoTR spider queen (with babies) was interesting, maybe to be used as a Herald or Fiend, but i wanted to try out this force first to see if it needs anything else.

the problem with Nids at CP is that the only Synapse you can take is a brood of Warriors, which means no 1-model leader unit (my Genestealer Uprising list uses a Lictor for the Patriarch to "Count As", as nothing else comes close to being apropriate). a minimum brood of 3 warriors is a big chunk of (my 400) points, and wouldnt be terribly resilent (or reliable) anyway - plus i need to buy 3 of whatever model i want to represent the leader, and justify having 3 of them fluffwise too. :(

i was almost tempted to pick the the Doctor Who Racnoss Queen action figure a while back though (giant spider with humanoid torso), which would be perfect for a Gargantuan Creature in Apoc (IIRC shes like 8" tall and a foot long!).

cheers :)

p.s. unfortunately ive been a bit busy this past few days, so my building progress has stalled - i have completed 7 of the 30 spiders. i will try to catch up a bit over the weekend.

Hmmm, left field idea here, how about treating them as Ork Slugga Boyz?

i had thought about that, but:
- they are slow (1 Waaagh per game, other than that, normal movement)
- they are too cheap (my 30 spiders would be what, 180 pts? i would need more than twice that)
- i dont have any bigger spiders to use as Nobz

plus they would have to deploy normally, without any transports, and footslog across the board. :(

even if i could get enough extra spiders (and get them all table ready without losing the will to live :P), 65 basic Orks in CP would make for very slow and potentially quite boring games.

so far Daemonettes seem to fit the criteria i laid out for my spiders, with the added bonus being that i dont use those rules for anything else (so i get variety). the true test will be how they work on the table - hopefully i will get to find out in Jan when i go up to Birmingam to see Dan & Co.

cheers anyway :)

p.s. i am thinking of using Ork Trukk Boyz as mad-max style human wreckers (Necromunda Goliath models and Ork vehicles), but that is a looong way off.
