Your Combat Patrol lists (for summer)

Post your army lists here!

Postby mattjgilbert » Tue Jun 17, 2008 4:39 pm

If you see someone is a poor/inexperienced player - you help them out. You don't smash them into a bloody pulp and laugh at them...

You take lists you don't expect people to moan about (not what you and your friends would consider "beardy" or uber" lists).

Like I said, it's all subjective but I hope everyone "knows" what "nice" lists entail without having to have hard and fast rules around it.

We'll all find out about what we all consider beardy, strong or weak lists soon enough!

BTW... I think you are nice. There, now you owe me that pint ;)

Well hopefully having had this discussion others may benefit.
Matt wins the token pint that makes me " a good lad" in the army list morality of meeting up :D (sorry limits of "what a nice guy :D " pints are handed out on a 0-1 cap per meet  However jellybeans of "well he wasn't as bad as I thought he would be" flow like water)
So now i've shown you mine show me yours AOS

i quite like the idea of people (if they are so inclined) bringing different lists and offering opponents a choice, e.g.:
"do you want to fight my 'competitive' list, my 'wacky' list, or my 'fluffy/themed' list?"
and then opponents matching occordinly. :)

when trying to make a "friendly" list, it doesnt have to be a choice between butchering your opponent and throwing the game. maybe its just not taking the stuff that makes you go "ooh nasty!" when you think about how hard it would be to deal with. the objective is to make a list that is fun to use and face, is interesting and fair - the goal is enjoying the game, not winning it.

make sense? :)

The Carnage mission PDF is on the GW site here: http://uk.games-workshop.com/download/d ... arnage.pdf

See, no need to worry about IP infringement ;)

I actually found it here (not seen this page before): http://uk.games-workshop.com/warhammer4 ... s-index/1/

killmaimburn wrote:but thats just the thing your worried by heavy bolters
just to clarify: it wasnt the that i was "worried" by them - it just seemed a bit overkill, and a bit too "competitive" (coming close to "min-maxed") for a "friendly" list. 3 heavy bolters would have conveyed that the unit was a shooty anti-infantry unit, and would have provided plenty of firepower (with good BS), freeing up pts for something else (allowing for more variety). taking the maximum number of heavy weapons in the squad (without maximum squad size) and making them all the same kind of weapon to maximise their efficiency was the problem really. 4 (or even more) Heavy Bolters spread out between different squads and mixed in with other weapons wouldnt have been as bad.

it wasnt even that big a deal, though (just a "little voice at the back of my head"). ;)

its up to you mate. dont forget i even said that i would play against the Raptor cheese list. ;)

killmaimburn wrote:I'm still only going to play 1 or 2 400s as fillers for 1500s, but the thread is saying I am at least going to play 400s a bit now :D .

cool. :)

besides, this thread has only been up for less than a day - half the people bringing CP lists might even want to play cut-throat "competitive" games rather than "friendlies".

bring what you bring and have some fun. as long as no-one cheeses it up just to "pwn n00bs" then it shouldnt really be an issue. even if the odd fluffy force gets its head kicked in for half an hour, we are there for the whole weekend, so its not the end of the world. :)

BUMP.

We need to agree the CP format. What are the rules and restrictions? Are they as KMB proposed in post #1 of this thread or are the the standard ones from the 4th ed rulebook?

personally i will be using the standard 4th ed CP rules, restrictions and mission for 4th ed CP games, and for 5th ed i will be using the standard 4th ed restrictions, and either playing Annihilation w/12" opposite DZs, or rolling for DZ and mission as per 5th ed rulebook (depends on how adventurious im feeling) - as discussed here.

although im not sure we necessarily need to agree to a unified format: as long as everyone comes to an agreement with their individual opponents, every game can be slightly (or wildly) different, if we like.

(for example, Ruffian is going to field my homebrew Stealer Cult against me so we can playtest it, and KMB is going to take me on with me using 4 CP lists against his 1500 pt FOC-filler)

CP forces are small enough that we can bring several variants to use against different people if we want to. i would recommend the normal 4th ed rules/restrictions/mission as a standard for 4th ed games, but really, people can do whatever they like. :)

cheers

I've designed several lists for this. One however is a problem and thats my Adeptus Arbites list. This uses the chapter approved Citadel Journal list written for 3rd ed. It has no rule problems, only a few points issues (a BS3 rhino is 50pts for example).
The actual problem is that the shock team has suppression shields that give a 2+ save in combat only thereby breaking the no 2+ save rule. If anyone objects, I have the other guard lists. I thought that the Arbite list would be great fun against Tim's genestealer cult.

hmm, the shield issue is an interesting one, as it is a conditional Save (you have to be in CC to use it). i know i certainly wouldnt stop somene using a 2+ Cover Save (even though CP says no "2+ Saves"), for example, Cameleoline behind a Fortified Barricade... and i wouldnt stop someone from taking something that got +1/+2 to Cover Saves just incase it ever made it into cover that would give it a 2+ Save (and if your shield guys never make it into CC they never get a 2+ Save).

im not sure if the shields would be allowed by the RaW of the standard restrictions, but personally, i would love to fight this list (with my cult or any of the armies i am bringing), so i would be gladly willing to let this slide (or agree on a houserule: maybe 3+ Armour/5+ Inv in CC instead of 2+ Armour?)

cheers :)

Angelwing, can't see a problem with that, after all CP is supposed to be for fun little games.

I'll play you, I'll be bringing a variety of CP lists.

Now to work out how to get a Stormblade into CP ...

Definitely bringing them, they're not only in a CP list but also part of 1500pt/2000pt lists with Sentinels, a Thunderbolt, and a Vulture, maybe even a 3rd Valkyrie (my unfinished scratchbuild) :)

The other thing with Arbites is that the shock troopers have guardsman stats, and are therefore rubbish in combat! I had to convert up an proctor with a powerfist to give the unit actual bite. They are normally the bodyguard of my Judge, but alas he's a 3 wound character and so won't be available for the patrol.
