More questions than answers
Their could be no charge..the swirling melee made it difficult to time especially on Matheus’ damaged legs.
But something was happening, they both knew it.This was more than just adrenaline flooding their systems; as Matheus computed his best method of attack using his now limited body in a real test for his skill, as Petrus had flown like an eagle from the building and found his brother infected.
Dust shifted in the archives of their long memories, keys turned in quantum locks..like phoenix from the destruction around them, they were both very different people by the time they were ready to join battle.
"Human, designate-arbites, step back lest ye be caught in the tidal force of the emperors will” Matheus shouted and at that signal Petrus chopped at the back of the corrupt marines legs whilst Matheus put all his strength into an over head blow that shattered the now visible helmet..steaming puss burst from the cracks..
“AGAIN!” Swipes to the legs took the foul things legs from under it and another blow to the head caused yet more puss to spray from the helmet.
“AGAIN!” They both now hit the head with mighty blows from the power mauls, remembering with fondness when they had chopped wood in a similar tandem fashion, but that had been a distraction, there was only war there had always only ever been war.
“THRUST!” and with that they both plunged their battons through the cracked helmet into the ichor contents that filled the armour, a sizzling crackling sound filled the air and with that the beast finely slumped forwards.
“By Terra what right have you to impede my investi..” The arbiter proctor looked at the large men, no longer crouched in a fighting stance he saw their true size, the fire behind them still raging made them impressive, though their deeds counted so much more..together they had destroyed a corrupt astrates..
“Forgive me I did not know the emperors finest were bound to the same case as my own”
The brothers glanced at each other ..and quickly gestured with their hands, secret battle language only recently resurgent in their minds.
“He should not know,”-
“But he will not obey”
“He must”
“No,this one serves the judges”
“ Kill?” ( a swift minute flex of the little finger that meant so much)
They each took a moment to smash the nearest ambling zombie and looked down at the proctor.
The proctor looked at his thinned ranks
“I set off with 20 men,if you wish it when my chimera arrive you may have one.”
“ we shall accompany you to your pickup point, but first answer us..is your mission complete arbiter?”
“I think it had best be, don’t you (he gestured to the dead protectors of the peace) I was to investigate the source of the problems of this world,I did not expect the great enemy.Your intervention in the matter will be noted, the administration of terra may honour you for your part”
(again the swift gesture with the little finger)
“No, one death does not matter to us, we do not crave or seek your tokens,..your squad gave their lives valiantly bringing the foulness down, we were not here.”
The end of that sentence was said with no overt malice and yet the proctor was suddenly very aware that he was stood on the battlefield and there was nobody who would question anything that might follow any answer but..
“As you wish it, you were not here.no records of you shall be kept..It was a hard won victory for the arbites”.
A reassuring hand on the shoulder and the smiles returned swiftly to their faces..
They whittled away the time till dawn burning the death from the city..dismembering the dead that could still walk..They barely noticed the transport group roll in
