Ryza space marine chapter

Postby conscriptboris » Mon Jan 28, 2008 9:41 am

hi all,

Ive been trying to resource information on the forge world planet ryza, i know they are plasma specialists and have a gaurd regiment and titan legion - legio cruzius (warmongers).

So i want to make a SM chapter for this forgeworld, being important i thought it might deserve one. With the titans nickname warmongers, i looked up the chapter and cant find any info on this chapter, does any1 know of resources that i may have not found?

i want to make a plasma heavy chapter:

Possibilitys:

-bolter replaced with normal plasma gun
-devastator squads with only heavy plasma guns
-vindicators equipped with plasma cannons
-Being a forge world planet, i thought my termites would be perfect as a vehicle theme

chapter banner-

So any thoughts, comments?

Titan legions are not related to Marine Chapters, they are a wholly separate force controlled by the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Going plasma heavy is going to really unbalance the force, and traditionally the heaviest Marine plasma users are the Dark Angels. Using a legal codex ruleset you won't get anywhere near want you want to do, and in order to balance having so many plasma weapons you should really have very very few Marines in the army, to the point that they'll likely be unplayable (and of course plenty of Apothecaries ...)

Of course you can make up any fluff you like, but with Ryza being an established planet in the 40k fluff I'd be inclined to suggest that you look into a plasma heavy IG army instead as it'd fit the background better, and with the Executioner tank and Stormblade super heavy tank being some of the reknowned exports of Ryza making the IG even more fluffy is pretty easy :P

Ryza, my only knowledge of it, pleasure planet in Star trek TNG (and an insult apparently to your girlfriend if a dweeb tells her to go back there, WTF?)
And isn't the Ryza one of the rappers from the wu tang clan.
Check my bad self, I've almost found the pulse of the nation between those 2 comments

KMB, what are you doing on a 40k site if you don't know what Ryza is?!?! :P

Ahh but if the sources for that are Imp armour 1, then both of my sources existed first. And therefore I was providing a depth of knowledge as to where GW had *cough* borrowed the name from.

If you want to make up a Chapter, even one with an established name (such as the Warmongers), feel free to do so. However, trying to convince your opponent to let you use Plasma Guns instead of Bolters is probably not going to happen unless you are paying 30+ points per Marine. I suggest you use the Space Marine codex with Traits. Scions of Mars would be appropriate due to their being from a Forgeworld.

Also, FYI, the quartered background on your "Chapter" banner actually represents a company in a Space Marine army. I don't recall which one uses quartered blue and green, but I think it is the fifth company.

TBH, i thought he meant that every marine that could swap his Bolter for a Plasma Gun would do so (at the exclusion of all other special weapons), not that he would be taking more special weapons than are usually allowed... :?

my AdMech SM (Combat Patrol) have quite a 'plasma' theme to them: one squad has both a Plasma Gun and a Plasma Cannon (although the other squad does have a Melta gun). one day i will actually get round to finishing building them...

Oh sorry yeah I'm meant to being helpful.
Ok Marines with plas
You could take minned out squads with cleanse and purify trait 92 2plas guns per squad, + a combi plas on the sargent. you could take honour your wargear and take 6 squads of devastaters all with plasma cannons.
However neither of those sound that great at the core.

Might I suggest that what your asking for sounds tailored to the new chaos codex (I hate it, but it sounds like it might do you a treat)
Devastater\havoc squads with 4 plasma guns in, Chosen (veterans) with 5 plasma guns in and can infiltrate) I think some of the roxxers say the big selling point of the chaos dex is being able to fit 30 plasma guns in 1000 points.(and of course not forgetting access to termies with combi plas weaponry)
the vindicator is in the general list for anyone and their aunt to use.
Mech works (in fact is the only way to roll really due to a total lack of fast attack) so if your aiming for loads of blokes poping out of rhinos shooting plas..... read the chaos codex with an aim to maxxing plas and see how it fits ( I think it might be good for what you want)

For best plasma theme = my apothecary termie plas armie with tornados (silly, and the list is pretty much the title)

Don't forget Plague Marines too, they can take 2 plasma guns or pistols per squad, plus the champion can take a plasma pistol and/or a combi-plasma, for a total of 3 plasma armed models in a Troops choice. Combine that with the Havocs and Chosen with 5 plasma armed models per squad, and the CSM list may well prove to be the plasma heaven that conscriptboris is looking for.

My own Dark Angels have plasma guns and cannons in every tactical squad (I originally put it together under 3rd edition, with the DA combat squads I'll have to take 10 man squads and field them in 5s), but that's only because I like the plasma cannon model and they were good under 3rd ed (shame they got a bit nerfed in 4th, looks like they might be more fun in 5th although I'm not too happy if the always scatters is kept and my BS3 marines with plasma become effectively BS2).

Culven,

This is the chapter banner for the warmongers, it is also there chapter armour colours.

However, trying to convince your opponent to let you use Plasma Guns instead of Bolters

Sorry if i confused ppl, i mean more plasma weaponary than usual codex armies to the rules extreme outlines. Also i gives me conversion possibilitys to change vehicles shapes etc to fit with the theme.

One idea i want to invest in is a Plasma Line breaker squadron. Remove the vindicator, put executioner plasma cannon in place (works as per usual) but whens theres 3 it will work like the linebreakers in levelling buildings or........melting them :D

Spack and killmaimburn,

ive never been in to chaos, done all the other teams and never really want to start that army.

Well the warmongers was only an idea, i can always think of a differ chapter, i had the thought of looking at the FW ryzas history, seeing what lesser known chapter has been there and building that chapter with higher amounts of plasma weaponary....YES!!!!

i think the idea was that you would paint them as loyalist Marines but just use the CSM codex for its rules.

you would lose ATSKNF but gain Icons and lots of Plasma Gun opportunities. another plus point is that you could represent the AdMech bond by attaching some Praetorian Servitors (using the Oblitorator rules) to your Marine force when defending the Forge World etc.

hope that helps :)

Thats it, the old codex was the best most versatile for made up races and chapters, from preheresy things to armies of ninjas (close assualt alpha legion stuff) etc etc. Now most super counts as variant races use Eldar or smurf (de to the versatile size shape and function of units (+power level of course) but with the plas emphasis it certainly struck a bell somewhere close by my brain.
You could even use a warsmith as an HQ Lord (looks like a hard techmarine)

Loving this idea, i think im going to create a new chapter entirely, although i was drawn to Soul drinkers, items like the termite and plasma weapons could have been "found" on the hulk they live on?

I read the first one and about half the second. I too thought about a Soul Drinkers force. I wasn't sure if I wanted to run them with CSM rules or BA rules (with Sarpedon modeled in his current form but use Jetpack rules for his movement).
