All Round Defence - 2000 points

Postby timewizard » Sun Nov 21, 2010 3:16 pm

Here's the battle report of my last game against my regular opponent.

Batrep All Round Defence.pdf
(1.48 MiB) Downloaded 336 times

We played the All Round Defence mission from the Battle Missions book.

I play Space Marines and my friend plays Necrons.

Have a look, hope you like it.

Many thanks again to Matt for converting the file into pdf format for me. :D

We've only worked our way through 5 of them so far.
I like that they are written for specific armies but can be easily adapted for any force.
Out of the ones we've played, "All Round Defence" and "Implacable Advance" were most interesting.
"Implacable Advance" because the deployment zones were the short table edges and 24" up each side which gave interesting options for bringing in reserves.
"All Round Defence" because any reserve unit can arrive from any table edge! Gives a whole new meaning to 'watching your 6'!

The whole book is pretty good. The missions are well thought out, and by putting your own terrain on the table, you can tailor them how you want.
Makes for fun and challenging games!

Some are.. some are fun to have a novelty go at decide their appalling and burn with fire.
Some are ill designed where they are designed to help army x but because you took variant B of the codex build all the positive balancers don't work (because your list already spent points being able to do that) Although that can be fixed by you not just taking loads of unit X and taking as diverse army as possible..

A fairly good read . I don't know how everyone else felt but if you changed units A-Q to a relevant key it would be easier to scan read.
Example
Librarian =L
Combat squad= C1, C2,C3,C4
Vindicator=V1+V2.
Is that possible with the program you use?

Yes, I'm using Battle Chronicler. The only problem would be matching the phots to the Battle Chronicler picture.
I printed out a bunch of round letter markers that I glued to extra round bases I had. It makes it very easy to take notes during the game.
(ie. A moves 6" north, B shoots D and kills 3, etc.)
But for the next batrep, I'll label the units the way you suggest. We'll see how it works. Thanks!

We're good friends! He's getting better at tactics. The funny thing is when we play space hulk, he wins like 90% of the time!
Oh, and he's a heck of a lot better than me at console games!

Quality read mate, enjoyed it!
I do think he's starting to catch up a bit.

If it was me, those vindicators would be the first on my to do list ...

Cheers for the pdf creator mate!
Just downloaded and tried it and it worked great (I think the English translation is 'it worked a treat') :)

Eric is playing better, he's also using quite a few "counts as" models trying to find a combination of units that he's happy with.
I never take him or his force for granted either. I approach each game the same. Identify the greatest threat, work on neutralizing it.
I try to give him so many targets and so many threats that he finds it difficult to focus on just one.
Still, we laugh at failed saves and missed shots, laugh even harder when he rolls overkill on one of my units and obliterates it!
Couple of hours escape from the bull of real life, playing a fun game.
And that's what it's all about, yes? :D

In the immortal words of the twin Gods of comedy (Laurel and Hardy), "It sure is."
Cue brick landing on head!*

Looking forward to finally getting a game in.
Last one was about a month after the get-together in Feb!

*That reminds me, must take a pic of the top of my head to show off the new "ouchies" curtesy of still unremoved screws!

How can you have a fellow gamer move in and game less or shouldn't I ask? :)

I know. What helped me was the scenario rules that he had to put all HQ and Heavy Support choices in reserve.
Then he only got 1 Lord in from reserve on turn 2.
I found out the hard way just how nasty the Wraiths are in CC against vehicles.
The key to the Wraiths is to keep them away and shoot them, (they're only T4) but with their Wraithflight, they move through everything.
And yes, Warscythes will make quick workd of Terminators and vehicles both!

8O horror!

There's been a bit of a conspiracy of events going back quite some time.

The hivefleet emigrated to Doncaster, Norsemantyr snapped his spine lifting heavy weights in sweaty rooms, Stargod is a bit of a part-timer and Caspar split with his missis and wasn't in any sort of mood for playing little army men for quite some time.

Then, of course, we had the biblical flood which destroyed TWAT hq.
Because of my crappy health, I don't get much done, so sorting it out is taking forever.

It's not helping that I thought this was a bit of an oppurtunity to "upgrade" the loft experience because we have so much terrain, it keeps getting underfoot and damaged. So, the floorspace is expanding under the eaves, it a pretty big job, all things considered.

Still, the hardboard is being delivered tomorrow, so some panelling out can get started.
I just don't want to start gaming again until its finished, if we do, it'll never get done! :?

What, the day to day progress of a glacier being forced uphill by a tree sloth?
In any case, TW's a woodworker and I'd be embarrassed at the shoddy nature of things.

Its like a line from my favest film ever (the original 1967ish b+w "The Haunting"), "add up all these wrong angles and you get one big distortion ..."
