This was our last battle in our battle mission series.
Not quite a campaign, there's no common thread running through it, just a series of scenarios.
This is from the "Implacable Advance" scenario in the Battle Missions expansion.

That is actually the plan!
We have two more Battle Missions to play, All-Round Defense and Vanguard.
Then we were going to play them again switching attacker and defender.
Between the two, we are going to play out a game using the other army, me Necrons and him marines.
The errors he makes is being too defensive with his units, and spreading the units too far apart losing them their WBB advantage.
This game he did a great job capitalizing on my error with Kayvaan and his squad. I put them too far out in front and assaulted a warrior unit that then (after a round of terrible dice rolling for me) teleported out of combat leaving my assault squad to get shot at and then assaulted by the Nightbringer. The Necron dex and tactics forums are right, the C'Tan are devastating in close combat. You need to stay back from them and shoot them to death!
His lists need a bit of work. He usually only takes 2 warrior units and has never fielded a tomb spyder. Don't know how much of a difference it would make.
We always have a fun evening anyway. Plus he gets even when we play Space Hulk. I think his record there is like 16 to 2!

i can see alot of effort and prepartion has gone into your report mate, and I think it is great.

I spotted the unit markers you have made also to allow easier identification in the report

I also spotted a little slip up too.... your image at the start of the battlefield, 'from the west' is actually from the east if the north - south image is correct

Thanks! TBH the format Matt developed in powerpoint make the job a lot less tedious!
Now he's teaching me how to reduce the size of the pictures and therby the size of the file!

Nothing too fancy. Printed out some rounds using powerpoint and glued them down onto round bases. Does make note taking much easier!

He does okay. He's a veteran video gamer where reflexes rather than tactics are the more important.
I, on the other hand, am a veteran of the old Avalon Hill cardboard counter games where tactics were king.
He's getting better with tactics too. But in the end, it's jsut about a few hours of moving models, throwing a ton of dice, looking at the result and yelling "What? Seriously! 9 freaking saves!!!" and then having another beer and moving on to the next combat.

Glad you enjoy the batrep. Next game isn't for a bit yet so I'm planning on redoing some old ones in this new format.

Do you both have other armies also?

Not as yet. I have some Tyranid models (first 40K experience was the Battle for Macragge set) and some Orks from AoBR. Not really anything playable yet.
Eric just has the Necrons but seems a little interested in DE.

That and I have to get going on my nids. Curious to see what they can do against Necrons.

Eat them most likely. That's if they are not avoiding them at all costs like normal ('nid fleets tend to give 'cron worlds a wide berth).

Still if they do eat them, they come back again. It's like the magic porridge pot. With guns.

I believe that any army can be defeated by any other army if the right tactics are employed.
Haven't really looked at the nids that much yet.
I did buy the new codex when it came out to see how bad the models I had would be!

Probably. Doesn't the fluff describe Necron worlds as being for all intents and purposes ancient and dead? Or at least devoid of all organic life?
If so, is not so much that the nids would avoid that world, more that there isn't anything let there to attract them.
Hmmm, that gives me an idea.
As an objective, a machine that projects a false image that a world is lifeless and therefore of no interest to the nids.
But the machine itself would be attractive to the Necrons.
So if it is destroyed, the Nids will attack, but if it is maintained, the Necrons will.
Makes the world kind of caught between a rock and a hard place.
