IG Droptroops Combat Patrol vs Daemons

Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Thu Oct 16, 2008 3:21 pm

Hey all :)

i tried a new list out last night:

[400 Pts Army List]

Doctrines:

Drop Troops

4 Guardsmen: Plasma Guns
Close Order Drill, Drop Troops

Veteran Sergeant: Chainsword, Laspistol, Frag Grenades
1 Guardsman: Grenade Launcher
Close Order Drill, Drop Troops

Infantry Squad #2 [10 models - 84 pts]
Veteran Sergeant: Chainsword, Plasma Pistol
1 Guardsman: Grenade Launcher
Close Order Drill, Drop Troops

Infantry Squad #3 [10 models - 84 pts]
Veteran Sergeant: Chainsword, Plasma Pistol
1 Guardsman: Grenade Launcher
Close Order Drill, Drop Troops

Remnants [5 models - 56 pts]
Veteran Sergeant: Chainsword, Plasma Pistol
1 Guardsman: Plasma Gun
Close Order Drill, Drop Troops

my opponent's C: CD list included:
- Khorne Herald
- Bloodletters (6)
- Flamers (3)
- Daemonettes (7)
(squad sizes are approx.)

we managed to squeeze 3 games in (which was good, considering i only made it to club halfway through the night). we played:

1. Capture & Control / Spearhead
2. Seize Ground (3 Objectives) / Dawn of War
3. Annihilation / Pitched Battle

it was my opponent's first time using his Daemons (he's the guy who beat me with CSM @ 1500 pts last time). IIRC we drew one game (talking about it afterwards, i thought he won, but he said it was a draw), and i won the other 2 (they were very fast and furious, and we didnt take notes etc).

he made a couple of mistakes in the first game:
- Daemonettes tried to arrive too close to the board edge, scattered off table and were killed in a mishap
- Bloodletters (sitting on Objective) didnt GTG until it was too late and there was only 1 left

on top of that he had another unlucky scatter in the last game: Daemonettes scattered between 2 of my squads, and couldnt quite fit without being within 1" of an enemy. they got displaced due to the mishap, and i put them in Difficult Terrain at the other end of the board (for the record, he started it by doing the exact same thing to my Zombies last month :P).

on the other hand, in one game my whole army shot a single Flamer and couldnt kill it! it balanced out though as he never seemed to kill more than half the models he should have with Breath of Chaos (he would hit a whole 10 man squad and kill just 2 guys!).

i concentrated fire on the Flamers, and dropped as far from the Bloodletters as possible. once the Herald became a threat i took him out as a priority.

none of my guys died due to mishaps, with just a single squad getting delayed, although i did lose a couple of models to Dangerous Terrain tests. having everything in (normal) Reserves meant that he could grab all the objectives before me, as i had nothing on the table until turn 2-3 (sometimes 4!). ive suggested my opponent try some Plaguebearers for Objective sitting (he could get 6 if he dropped the Herald, and they would be very hard to shift if they used GTG for a 3+ Cover Save on top of their T5 FNP)...

i had never played an all Drop Troop army before, but it was a real blast. the Grenade Launchers especially were a lot of fun (and did plenty of damage, whilst allowing me to land outside of charge range).

i know this isnt much of a "batrep", but its more than just a "list", so i thought this was the best place for it.

cheers! :)

~ Tim
p.s. i have arranged another game next week, using my 1500 pts IG list. not sure yet whether he will be bringing his CSM again, or his Eldar. either way, there should be plenty of carnage.

Awesome stuff. Glad to see the drop troop army worked well.

I've been weighing up doing a drop troop style army, combining that doctrine with storm troopers etc.. to make a all stormtrooper drop troop army.

Lots of Karskin and Valkyries, Drop Troop sentinels etc.. What do you reckon?

Congrats again! :D

with Difficult Terrain now being Dangerous to DS'ers, safe cover was hard to find. due to this, i think Carapace Armour (either the Doctrine or on Stormies) would help quite a bit, especially if landing close to the enemy.

problem with starting a new army now is that we dont know how valid it will be under the next Codex. :(
(until then im not buying anything new for my IG - im just playing around with what i already have in my collection)

cheers :)
