Had a truly awesome game vs Ljundhammers guard last night
Slightly modded my list more (its coming together nicely)
HQ- Captain on bike with storm shield, relic blade and melta bombs(the only point user upper) (185)
Elites- Multimelta dreadnought (105)
Troops- 10 man tactical las melta razorback (melta and sergeant in razorback) (225)
Troops- Full bike squad/ split 2 melta guns,Multimelta and ablative, and 5 bikes dakka with the sarge having a fist- bouncing them up to 10 made a massive difference (315)
FA 2xDual heavy bolter landspeeders (120)

Heavy- Devastator squad 4 missiles (they’ve been given a better paint job due to their surprising synergy of awesomeness they provide to this list) (150)

Unit review- Dreads are still good for sniping and in this list seem to get shot less than the attack bikes meaning they have a good chance of getting where they’re going, I miss arty farty armour ..it makes the
IC more of a squad upgrade/coward.. but he still worked ok..The “ignore me” tactical squad (+razorback) went- I figured I’d listen to you guys gave me points for the dread and I realised that struggling to get the HF MM speeder to work was just taxing my brain and that 6 shots from attack bikes is comparable to the HF ..so bucket more MM attack bikes was added
-Yes I now have 10 melta weapons (and some str 10 and a las)
I’m kind of worried that I’m steering too far away from large hordes and tailoring to mech and meq, need to play a good horde quick, to balance. (I’ve got the dakka pred, the templates,the speeders and the bike bolters- but is it enough?)
His list
Command squad with grenade launchers and chimera
2 sentinals with autocannons
1 max plas vet squad in chimera

We looked at lists and pretty much figured I had an upper hand (I’ve got a bit too used to only playing against 2 landraider/3 prism lists)
Played draw (capture and control) and then the hammer hit- we got quarters.(spearhead)
He won the dice roll and gave me first turn.
I set up as far forward as I could, dev and 5 man las in 4+ cover (but still having good arcs round central pieces of terrain),other stuff covering each other..2 main blocks of my stuff.
He set up just his leman russes.and put everything else in reserve.
I moved forwards(very tentatively..I couldn’t
TB across the half way line, he’d just storm on with hi banewolfs and on a 2+ kill whole phalanxs)..I managed to shake a leman russ with missiles (nice)
His turn a shot landed inside my dev barricade- killing 2 missile launchers (meh)
My turn 2..I feel very trapped I want to flank into his quarter but don’t want to auto gib against the banewolfs..I turbo some MM up the table in my half towards the leman russ..I
TB 2 attack bikes to sit right in front of them (craters inbetween).. and I decide &*%&$ it.. and
TB 2 attack bikes right onto his board edge (in my mind I figured doing this would stop the 12” zoom then template throws (optimistic and rather dumb)..
His turn his 2 melta vet squads come on and remove the MM attack bikes sat in right in front of the leman russ..his sentinals come on and charge into my MM combat squaded troops (very wise it tarpits me for 3 whole game turns) His leman russ pings off a central mass, I think it killed 2 ablatives of the 5man las sat on my base)
Callidus marbo turns up and kills 3 bikes from the combat squaded fist side and(I think it wrecked the razorback that was shielding them from incoming fire too!)
My turn 3, gah his banewolves still haven’t turned up I still can’t safely enter his table half (this is some insane area denial going on right here).. 5 man melta line up and having seen the
CC stats for callidus marbo decide to rapid fire the snott out of him instead of movie momenting it.
Dreaders gets in on the game crawling over the central terrain piece to get a weapon destroyed on a chimera (he spent the rest of the game slowly getting to sit on the enemys flag crawling over crunched up vehicles)
Vindie gets a full face shot through some trees and kills 7 vets, MM attack bikes on the fringe go for the chimera that has troops beside it (hoping for a big boom) but roll snake eyes)
Dual speeders and dakka pred shoot the whole vet squad. But he makes every single 4+ (about 13 of them)
His turn, command squad roll on, take some pot shots at the rear of my dreadnought but ping off,a squad embarks chimera and shoots vindie (immobilised but still in threatening position) Downs one of my speeders and removes a gun from the other.
5 man las are now just one man (lasless) sat looking very scared holding my base. He uses the much reduced vet squad to kill 1of the “his board edge” attack bikes- (he still had 1 left to my one whole attack bike at the end of turn 7)
Turn 4 bit maudlin my anti tank is now entirely tarpitted damaged or gone and he still doesn’t have those things on the table (grouchy huff) I split my
IC from bikes and lock into command squad (missing (again..he has the worst dice but he’s tough so lives)remaining fist squad bikes jump to reinforce my base. Dreadnought gets into HTH with a chimera its just immobilised.. Rest of stuff looks for something not armour 12 (or tries to stun the leman russes)
His turn the banewolves shoot on 18..(I didn’t know it then but he was going to charge right across the board and massacre my base with them) more small damage done by multlasers, bit more damage done by leman russes, though not much (I think the las and ordinance combined doesn’t hurt my vindie) My MM combat squad bikes finally finish beating to death the last weaponlesss immobilised sentinel
My turn 5 (did he really just do that?.. did he just park those banewolfs right in front of my 5 man melta squad?Whats his game..never mind it all becomes clear) 5 man melta squad shoot banewolf- immobilise it, move up 1 on the fully mobile 4 krak on the immobile ..I nearly got a 6 against the mobile one… but I’m happy just to wreck the better painted one).
Dakka pred and remaining missiles open up on side of chimera protecting a scoring unit on his base last shot does the deed (after immobilised and 2 weapon destroyeds I roll an explodes which takes out 6 of the 10 man squad hidden inside)
Vindicator gets very lucky and pops a leman russ, the MM and 2 melta pop the other one. (that’s 4 tanks neatly dispatched in one turn with remnants)
My remaining skimmer just hurtles around doing max speed to try to contest his base in case anything goes wrong.
His turn (amazed at the turnaround) He sends the banewolf up and poison attacks my base (killing everything, bikes men, devs) but one troop guys is left stand showing him his private parts.. His men on his base scrabble for some form of order around the wreckage of their tanks..trying to work out whether to get the bikes the speeder or the dreadnought (all of which are beside them)
(dice say play another turn)
My turn 6 My 5 man melta catches up with banewolf and the remaining trooper on base sticks his leg out to give it a krak grenade too (it blows and fortunately does not take the troop choice with it)..Dreadnought now comfortable chewing through vets, speeder shoots others, MM attack bike remove chimera..
IC in middle of nowhere has an attempt to pop last vehicle (can’t remember whether he does or not.. its his last model)
I have his base (with my 3 bikes) 1 lone troop on mine, an immobilised vindie, a working dread, a 1 heavy bolter speeder,a full
IC, 5 man melta,predator, oh and yeah one attack bike still locked in with one guardsman (we forgot about that..)
(stuff I missed we actually played to turn 7 ..and there was a bit where my MM combat bike squad ran away regrouped and charged again but meh, whatever I missed was just padding somewhere between 4 and 6 when I was on a downer.
I possibly should have tried to break away using the smurf special rules from some of those tarpits..meh)
Mine will come out as is next time, I think he will drop leman russ sponsons and add an astropath.
