Rather unusual battle developed in the haunts of the Time Wizard this past evening.
Two players decided to throw down some dice in a friendly game.
However, they were rather new to the game, in fact, neither had ever played before!
So I set up a simple set of parameters for them.
Each had a 10-man squad, 10 tac marines vs 10 necron warriors.
No sgts, special weapons,
ICs, didn't even get into reanimation protocols.
All they did was learn how to move the squads as a unit, how to fire rapid fire weapons both at max and at half range, how to determine
LOS, how to roll for hits, wounds and armor saves.
The two protagonists were:
Jonathan, 8 years old, son of Time Wizard with a squad of 10 Necron Warriors.
Trevor, 8 years old, friend and classmate of Jonathan wiht a squad of 10 Space Marines.
They were tutored in how to play (again, simplified to start) they moved their squads, fired and made saves, and Jonathan won the battle with 1 warrior left standing.
They wanted to play another game, but by themselves, so I moved back into my private lair and under the watchful eye of the referee Cassandra (my 11 year old) they commenced another battle, which Jonathan again won, this time with 2 warriors remaining.
They wanted to play again, but bedtime was approaching, so their next battle will wait till the morrow, after they return from yet another friend's birthday bash. At this time they will start to have
ICs with their units, and after that we will move into more of the rules (morale checks, assaulting, etc.).
What they didn't have to be taught was how to have fun moving models and rolling dice, that they took to naturally. It mattered not who won, in fact, they both did. A great gaming evening was had by all!
So I felt duty bound to post this, their first batrep, here in the "AoS Public House" for all to enjoy over a pint off their favorite beverage.
More to come!
