Warlord traits, I have counter attack if I’m in my deployment zone,
He wishes out loud for a 5 and gets it, minus 1 to my reserve rolls (he’s happy with it, but so am I)
Lengthways table battle of D3+2=3 mysterious objectives (Mission1)He tells me to deploy first, and as I start doing so he panics because I start deploying,he hasn’t been reading these..so was completely surprised by the list not being pure deepstrike.

LH is going first so he places 2 right beside his tanks I place 1nearish my troops. (haven’t checked rules on that)
We both set up. Then we roll for what the mysterious river right beside me is,the anti psycker one, Arrrgh.
Turn 1 (I’ve decided to keep my infiltrating plasma back, rather than suicide them on the hope of AV14 popping silly early)
Night fighting..and we’re both out of optimal range,
James goes first pop shot.. with godhammer.. nothing.
I shuffle forwards, for some strange reason on my right(far) flank (when Objective is on my left/near).. I desert my rear objective. (after discovering it’s a wav generator (half charge distance).
LHs is a skyfire nexus.. crap so he can shoot down flying monstrous creatures.. at least it specifies scoring unit so he has to get out to shoot it.
Turn 2, He’s not moving..Its obvious he intends to sit on his rear objective and force a draw until he zooms his right flank onto the middle objective as late as possible..I’m vocal on his tactics basically being only “kill the game”)
my demons scatter badly, flamers to nearly off the board edge at the back.(at least it will cause him to split his castle)
My fateweaver has teleported into no mans land.. (Get back you fool)
There then follows 10 minutes of LH very patiently watching me shuffle every single unit back and forth twice(Yes I was totally that guy).. until I actually decide to move my troops up around the fateweaver.
His Turn 3He has to address that flamerbomb, so he gets out to get more shooting..He shoots they don’t die (LOL)..he has to assault them to kill them, meaning he’s out of range of disembarkation next turn..(Now I can strike)..Does give him first blood though.
We’re still out of optimal fire range..like spiders mating we’re sat at 24.1” showing each other are claws.. but he’s taken pot shots with his godhammer (mostly taken wounds off my demon prince IIRC.
My turn 3Now he’s committed behind him, I zoom up.Plas on my left (near)..Demon prince and faetweaver (supersonicing to get into the fight) on right/far.Centre wodge shuffle for fire.
I cast puppet mastery on his crusader.. to get the multmelta to pop his godhammer.. but he gets a 6 to resist the witch with his landraider..Damn.
My vindies have exposed themselves by moving up, they take shots he passes his cover saves..( Made a note in my diary on the way over here, simply said: 'bugger')
His turn 4His disembarked squad make their slow trudge back to be in range of Landraider.. his left/far squadron disembark but sit back for some counter attack.. his middle squad zoom forwards and disembark for some kicking butt.
His stormbolters kill of a few tzeentch removing the cover saves from my vindicators and they both pop (damn).
At this point I’m basically crying for mommy, he’s passed every cover save and neutered my psychic powers, he’s controlled range the whole game.. My army is in pieces. Doom!!.. but then.
He fails the random charge range to get in on my demon prince et al. They are not tarpitted.. they are free to HULK SMASH..yay.
My Turn 4 NOW ITS ON!!.Due to reduced reserves my horrors finally show up, 1 on middle objective (glad it didn’t show up to earlier). The middle objective is a grav wave(that’s important remember that) . 1 just off my rear objective ..needs to run to get up..fails..moves up to sit out the game on it next turn)
CSM Demon prince moves up to smash a landraider (casts puppet master but fails leadership)Succeeds.… Fateweaver (not sure why) decides to tarpit his left/far squad on way in wind of chaos and bolt of change he passess all invulnerables..fateweaver loses combat but still there.,.
2Tzeentch squads+sorceror charge his command squad squad firing bolters as they go (1 guy goes down to bolter fire none to psychic shriek (underwhelmed by it to be honest) 2nd me being that guy moment as I realise I haven’t clarified what
CCW the sorcerer has..LH kindly allows me a choice, I choose poweraxe.(then we have a kerfuffle over challenges which is my bad) I lose combat but take some with me.. He’s put all his wounds on belial until he’s down to one wound and is now look out sir’ing whenever anything gets close.
Plasma guys vehicle moves 6, disembark 6 to contest objective and give good range for single plas shots (see photo of
LOS). Of course his thunderhammer is the closest so he dumps all plas onto that and it only dies to the last one.
His Turn 5 (Yes we made it to 5)
He kills fateweaver and consolidates back to his objective.His Godhammer moves up ready to suicide it onto the middle objective.
He climbs his near squad into his landraider
Some shooting at my horrors, not much done.
The 2 tzeentch + sorcerer vs deathwing plus belial combat grinds on.
My turn 5.Rhinos move up to block path to objective.(near)
My demon prince moves up to the crusader and casts puppet mastery and gets it to destroy its fellow landraider godhammer (nice).Then charges in and smashes it (nicer).He takes a wound on the librarian squad (nicest)
Here we see quite how far lengthways he was from my base, he’d decided not to try for it it his castling.
His turn 6..he has to ignore my demon prince (lol) to make a V fast charge from the wrecked pile of his landraiders to my horrors just to be able to contest the middle objective (as he can’t also get in on the plas contesters behind them)..
His other termie squad has to move back to his objective..meaning they can’t help..and the
ICs are still duel (although the ablatives have now fallen away.)
Combat=Sludge.
Termies on base shooting do nothing.
Termies charging..roll a 5 and a 1=6…this would have just been out (as it has to stay an inch away from the rhino they aren’t assaulting). But I’m also sat on the grav wave generator.. so he actually needed 12.
The game is mine..so much so we start tidying up before I realise I have my last turn.
My turn 6Demon prince casts puppet master on termies (its crap on infranty and randomised) fails to do anything to termies near middle. Then charges them (greedy..should have just sat in his zone for the linebreaker..or just contested his objective..meh) I lose and get squashed.
Plas squad, rhinos and horrors open up on squad near middle ..1 casualty 8 invulnerables passed.
My last abalative dies but my sorcerer takes down belial..slay the warlord to me.
End turn 6
game ends..I have 2 objectives, he has 1 (6:3)
He got first blood (flamers)
I got slay the warlord
Nobody got linebreaker, no other
VPs available.
=7:4 to me.
Discussion:
Going from 6 hard units that can score and contest to 3 kills “the teapot template”.
Gravwave objectives are awesome for shooty crap
CC stuff. (and I stick my nose up at all the tourney chat that they are going to ignore mysterious objectives)
Due to hesitant nature of the trap LH kind of gave me the game.. but castle + hampered reserve demons meant this game broke my Everything decided by turn 3 idea.
Being able to stick all saves in
CC onto one guy MUST be wrong...shurly shome mistake?
Its should be noted that having scrapped the deathwing..LH modified his guard heavily and has now (with the "all the bases start with me" 2:1 'tactic') thrashed me soundly 4 times..but I stopped taking pics due to lack of web interest.
