Army Builder 3

Discussion of anything 40K related

Army Builder 3

Postby Harkan » Thu Feb 21, 2008 7:07 pm

Have been thinking of doing this on a few forums now for a variety of reasons.

1. To gain more feedback on people's views on how the list functionality work
2. To gain info on issues (direct to www.ab40k.org )
3. To address some of the misconceptions people have
4. Keep a running update on plans, releases etc

Am only going to do this on a limited number of forums as we haven't got the time to troll round lots of forums but AoS is always a good place to try lol.

So if you have any views etc on AB3 (NOT the GW IAL!!!) then please let us know ... now all I have to do is persuade Spack to sticky this ...

I like it, I just wish I didn't have to pay 40$ for it.

EDIT:: Tim to answer your question, it is just a banner...

I like it - all my lists are built using it. I just renewed a 3 year license :)

I haven't really explored all the features, despite having owned it for ages but I've not really encountered anything troublesome.

Some skins would be nice. Unless I missed where they are kept, I have the ability to change the skin but didn't find any...

A running update on plans and releases is a good idea.

I think I've only seen one skin for AB3, and I went back to the default after trying it. You could always design your own :)

Warmonger set up a few skins, you can get them here: http://www.warmonger23.com/downloads.php

i was gonna say skins, as soon as i read Harken's OP. Something along the black on white like the printouts would be fine.

Or for a little variety, white on black ;)

That would satisfy me.

I understand that many gaming systems use the program, not exclusively W40K and that is why there are some things on the program that don't register with me, but for what I want it works great.

The watermarks would be another nice asthetic thing, to be able to drop a watermarked Dark Angels logo into the background of the list would be wicked, but that is purely a looks thing nothing more.

On the workings of the program though, one thing on my lists bothers me... The unit price doesn't always show the individual points of each element.

I think a HQ who takes a retinue for example, and then a transport maybes, are not all itemised seperately points wise. These elements are all treated as one unit in game, but not for Victory Points. It would be helpful to know how much each was without having to subrtact ones from the total.

I was thinking along the opposite :D (cheap weasel here who is still strolling along using 2.2) did 3.1 in itself add a forum friendly summary print list (to adhere to all forums IP standards)? I know that 2.2 has a summary print but its a fiddle removing all the individual points cost in the text file after.. has a summary mode already been added to 3.1 that lists individual wargear but also only lists unit total costs rather than the points costs of a bike etc?

Could probably make more points if I had it

Just to try and address some of the points so far:

Watermarks
We can't include proper watermarks such as GW logos. We walk a very very fine line with GW IP, hence the rules info acting as a "reminder" with a page number to the codex. If we included graphics, whilst a nice touch, we would be digging into GW IP even more.

Ongoing plans
At the moment we are in the process of a server move to a place where we have more access to the code/database and can get a lot of new features added (so expect a few days downtime in the next week or so).

IA AP .... I HATE that book with a passion as it has presented so many problems. The units are in for AP but we are awaiting a definitive answer from FW about using units with AP specific rules in a non-AP game. The decision was made not to add them in for normal as I didn't want the files to have one change and then another soon after. As soon as a definite answer has been received then we will make the changes as appropriate.

IG - this file has grown considerably and become overly complex. It is in the process of being rewritten now to make it simpler and put a few new features in

IA - this is going to get a hammering from the beta testing team to clear up any problems

SM - same as IA

And always ongoing is the bug fixes

Quick update.

Our site, www.ab40k.org, is currently unavailable due to the server move. Keep checking back, it should be back available in the next few days

I'm one of a group of fools organising a 2000pt 40k tournament in my gaming club's local area. Why fools, you ask?

Well, in truth, it was the boys (ie, all under 18s) who wanted to run it, but they needed grown ups to volunteer for job so that they could do it.

So, I put my hand up, took that step forward, and they did a runner after finding out how much work was needed.

So, I picked up a copy of AB3 to assist in list processing. Works a treat. I haven't had any issues, and it has actually helped to settle problems.

Nice work, guys.
