Chaos marine lord

Postby Fred » Sat Oct 29, 2011 9:31 pm

Hey guys. Ive recently started a chaos marine army. Im trying to take it nice and slowly. Painting up one unit before i buy the next. Basicly trying to not make my usual mistake and buying loads of units and then getting fed up of looking at the queue of marines ive got to paint. Anyway im building a black legion force. Ive gone for the traditional black legion colour scheme. Ive recently bought a khorne lord (the one with the massive deamon axe). Problem is im not sure what colour to paint him. I want him in black but A,i want him to satand out and B,should i not try and get some red on him being a khorne lord. Im not favouring any paticuler god throughout the army but thought this guy would be good to start of with. Any advise would be greatly appriciated. Many thanks.

Fred

The three colours of Khorne are black, red and brass so doesn't have to be red.
Maybe black with brass trim?
Are you looking at my cheese?

I never knew that. Thought it was just red. Only thing is I want him to stand out from the rest of the other guys. But then again he is the only guy with a fecking great big axe. That would proberly make him stand out abit.

To make him really stand out from the black legion, paint him white.

Or make a ornate base for him if you want a more uniform look.

One thing I quite like doing to make characters stand out is to reverse the colour scheme, so if my guys were red with a black trim, the character would be black with a red trim. Im guessing with the black legion tho its black with a sliver trim? If so he would look more like a iron warrior than a khorne lord.

If most of your guys are black with silver trim, why not make him black with brass/gold trim? Possibly with some red shoulder pads or something, to make him stand out a bit more?

Originally my Chaos Marine Army was a Black Legion done in black with silver trim, but I wanted a unit to count as Khorne Berserkers so painted up armour plates Red.
Liked it so much - the force turned into a Khorne worshipping army.

I would recommend painting some armour plates Red (don't have to go too much red as Chaos are always salvaging parts, using what they can find), plus some brass on icons and the axe.

The scheme I'm using is black amour with silver trim on the legs and gold on the shoulder pads so they all have a bit of everything on them. The basic troops I wanted to keep nuetral in case I want to give them a different mark in the future. The plan for the lord is to be leading a unit of berserkers who will have black amour and red helmets. And as he is a khorne lord I think it's only right he has some sort of red on him but stll keeping to the overall colour scheme but still making him stand out. Not asking for much am I? Lol.

Howdy Fred. I painted a Black Legion force about 10 years ago. Like I think you're wanting to do, I wanted to keep within the Black Legion, yet have squads / characters dedicated to different Powers. When I was doing my Berzerkers, I painted them in Black Legion colours, except I painted the one shoulder pad with the mark of Khorne in red and gold. I did the same with the 'bunny ears'. My Berzerker Squad.

Hope this helps.

Yes that's pretty much what I was planning. Enough red to mark them out as berzerkers but still in keeping with the black legion. Because I'm still quite new to chaos I'm not entirly sure which direction I want to go with it so by keeping colours and icons pretty neutral i'll have quite a wide scope if that makes sense.
