You could say they are Wirewovles, as described in Ghost's books. They are possessed creations after all. Could help keep the theme and allows you to be entirely creative - and not stick to one 'shape' for all deamons.

i use chaos hounds, mordheim dos, dire wolves and the thing in the woods as a greater daemon. the idea was that theye were all hell hounds summond to hunt the prey of the chaos marines. the thing with summoned daemons is you can use anything u want. im mixing in some kroot hounds at the moment as well, as they look fairly wierd and daemonic. the paint scheme i used was blck, highlight with charadon granite and wash with black wash, then the eyes and insides of the mouth, claws bones and teeth are all painted to look like flames to give that firey hell beast look!
whats that coming over the hill, is it a monster, is it a...oh sh*t its Kharn.

Actually, I was thinking more like Slimer. :D

I have been experimenting with painting an overall layer of dark brown (the colour of my gaming table) and then adding some highlights as though one were trying to peer through more of the ethereal creature's "body mass", hence it would seem more dense. My first attempt (some Sorrows for Malifaux) turned out OK, but not as well as I had hoped.

Another way to do the ethereal green is to do the opposite to GW's methods. Start with the model white undercoated, then drybrush liberally with a very whitened green, then again with slightly more green in the mix - I'm thinking toward the old bilious green end of the spectrum. This would give a model that is 'glowing from within' with white light while looking green....

For that matter then, you could try the white undercoat and then progressive thraka green washes until you have the color depth you want. Then a drybrush with light green and red eyes would finish it off nicely!

Perhaps. I will have to give the white basecoat with washes technique and see what I can do with it.
