Chaos Space Marine Lesser Daemons

Postby Culven » Tue Jul 27, 2010 6:16 pm

I have a Dark Wolves CSM army to which I plan to add some Lesser Daemons. Trouble is, I can't decide what to use. I currently have some Chaos Marauder models with Flails that I had thought to include as the spirits of warriors who fight for the Dark Wolves. I think that I have have changed my mind about using them since I don't think they really fit the army. My next idea is to use Chaos Hounds, most likely on 40mm bases. I am leaning more toward the Hounds as I like the way they fit into the fluff. However, before I purchase the models, I wanted to get some input from others just to see what everyone else thinks of the idea or if they can think of something better.

Cheers for the input.

They might become confused with my Wulfen (Possessed). Besides, I want a unit that I can explain away why they suddenly appear. At this point I'm thinking of claiming that the Chaos Hounds are Black Dogs/Bergast/Cwn Annwn/etc.. Then I can say they are ghost-like without needing to make the stretch that they are trapped souls of warriors or whatnot.

I'm planning to use Ghouls from the VC range as my Summoned Lesser Daemons (and a DE Hydra as the Summoned Greater Daemon).

Beastmen Gors could work as well (I'm only not using them as I'll be using them for the Khorne Vraks list).

My mate Jon-jo uses a range of different wolf and dog models for his LD's - including my favourite - the bulldg from the mordheim range....

I don't know that I could bring myself to buy any LotR models, but I may look into the Wargs. I don't like the dogs only be cause they are so small. I don't want the enemy dying from laughter not do I want to paint them like harmless little bunny rabbits.

;) Exactly. I actually have one of those at home. My kids love to have it bit their faces. :D

OK. I've had a look at the Warg Riders. Not only do they look pants (their faces look a bit melted to me, kind of like how Constable Odo looked in humanoid form), but you also get 6 for the same cost as 10 Chaos Hounds. So, it is looking like I may be doing the Hellhound/Black Dogs/Cwn Annwn unit instead.

Yeah, I think you pretty much let them eat what ever they want.

So, if I go for the Chaos Hounds, I will just need to figure out how to make them look like ephemeral daemon apparitions. Definietely don't want the glowing green look, but I'm still not sure how I want my ghostly models to look.

If you don't want the green effect aka the LOTR dead warriors, then I guess you wouldn't want the pale blue gohost look. (Paint pale blue, drybrush paler blue drybrush white.)

Couple of other options:
Paint jet black, light drybrush of a dark grey, varnish gloss, paint eyes with daemonich hellfire colours and do directional lighting around the eye sockets.

or

Paint metallic: Paint whole model brass, wash with verdigris, drybrush brass again, drybrush brass/silver mix.

What colour are your CSM's - really you want somethig that fits in with that to make the whole paint pallette cohesive and uniform.

Hang on, the army is wolf models using the chaos codex?
Why not explain the doggies as lost 13th company, entirely consumed by the warp, (literally) appearing as daemonaic dogs/wolves?
