A quick summary of how to chaos
Warlord traits- only worth rolling on if your facing space marines, otherwise go generic or take a named
HQ where you get what you want.
Boon table- It appears I’ve been playing it really tamely previously, it actually is deadly and awesome.. Only downside is when your custom skilled
IC becomes a demon prince/spawn.. but that is the way of chaos.
Abbadon- Good beatstick of awesome+ chosen squads everywhere. Good trait.
Ahriman –Good magic powers coming out his butt and grants infiltrate, a reliable sorcerer but with a heavy tax..
Fabius- really quite poor, gone are the 3.5 ed super guy.
Kharn- ok, but your paying 50 points for that +2 str +1 attack, more customisable khorne lord better 9esp since hatred incarnate isn’t so hot as a trait)
Huron- so much love (heavy flamer, combat familiar, super lightning claw and a power axe, He’s a
CC beast, the magic is rubbish but meh.
Typhus- Expensive, plague zombies overrated,but he’s hardcore if he’s what your army needs.-shame his trait is terribad.
Lucius- Never used him, not look at him.
Dark apostle—should have been army wide rerolls rather than just the one other
IC with him (not great but meh it’s a new unit)
Warpsmith- giving weapons get hot isn’t awesome. (not great but meh it’s a new unit)
Deamon Prince- overpriced but still does the business, I prefer to wait for one to majestically appear from challenges, black mace slanesh for speed (200points, 50 is from the artifact..)nobody gets up afterwards.
Chaos lord, awesome for making plague marine troops choices (bike black mace or termie armour with cultists, or just riding cheap and dirty with PMs) , awesome for khorne riding jugger with axe of blind fury.Tzeentch (nope) haven’t done slannesh..Always mark
Sorceror- never mark..level3 powers powers everywhere.. termie armour base holder with cultists or squad support with movement mode.(he’s support he’s not closecombat unless your using 20 cultists for max rerolls/piling on psychic powers specifically for it)
CSM good- rhino with combis as old.10man as old, don’t take icons, do take marks if for specific role. I take 5 man BP+
CCW +melta +combi plas (sniping) +veterans (don’t pay for the extra weapon take the either or instead)
Cultists- min squads good for annoyance, bigger squads need an attachment.Only go expensive with lasguns shotguns etc etc if synergy with epi etc.
Elites some of which can be troops-
Chosen- cool chuck out obscene firepower, 5 plas as troops choice on overwatch..nobody is coming near you. Not more than 1
CC thing, probably avoid marks unless specific role.
Possessed a tad disappointing..but 1/3 of them all having power weapons..a combat going on 2 phases chances are good. Really good in fun games, not reliable enough for tourney/serious face.
Helbrute-better but still rubbish. Never scores even with dark techmarine.
Beserkers icon of wrath removes a game mechanic= good but screening and stuff is odd.
Mutiator (new stuff therefore rubbish)
Noise marines- no idea haven’t looked at them, but apparently quite good.
Thousand sons terribad- no overwatch, no double wounds, no good mastery level one of them should be houseruled in friendlies.
Plague marines—deadly- blight grenades=awesome,
FNP a bit nerfed, if taken should really be with a cheap lord so as to score... if ally with epi totally broken good.
Fast attack
Bikes- now the sex (as nobody took them last edition) any mark but tzeentch is gravy.
Spawn are good- MON V good, I prefer Bikes, but people do just take swarms of spawn.
Helldrake- meh the web crys at how awesome it is, yeah chaos got THE good flyer released since necron spam.
Raptors so cheap.. but the above are slightly better (apart from for suicide which is more reliable turn2)
Warp Talons—turn 2land with lightning claws 30 points each..expensive..but just having one landing in a core phalanx 12” diameter of inititive test =
WS and BS1..Incredible interference unit, its understandable they didn’t let them upgrade to take melta too.
Heavy
Landraider- bit crap really, but everybody focussing on flyer meta makes them a lot more survivable (and they score in 1/6 missions)
Predator tri las (lascannons being the new sex of 6th) is cheap. Rest are still ok.
Vindicator- weapon randomising makes it more viable again.
Defiler.. got better got more expensive,needs the scourge.. it fixes the WS3 so unless you hide at the back of the table its vital so you don’t just go boom to 1 round of combat..(longer combats are regeneration time too)
Havoks autocannons 24/7 unless your going midground with plas..V cheap can score in 1/6
Obliterators- sexy, they got asscans again, mark or nurgle best, MOT viable.
Maulerfiend Forgefiend- meh the web talks about them enough.. have squad sof them sat with techpriest shooting a lot..meh yeah they’re good.But not required.
Fortifications-
Aegis- its good for cultists, its good for antiflyers- forget the rest.
Good allys-
Demons- Epi and kairos fateweaver are silly good I don’t expect them to be around next week. But the “loss” of generic demons (celebrate good times come on) is awesome. As long as in next codex heralds can still be built fairly cheaply they aren’t allys they are core bits of chaos reunited codex.
Chaos Orks (KFF and boyz swarm) Tau(meh at mo) crons (some chaos androids for for you sir?) and guard (meltavet unlock mech warfare) can all ally without benefiting from your awesome sorcerorness.
