Agreed, although they don't do a white or black, closest is a grey.(I use the red a fair bit.)
Barely even lurking..

My local Halfords does all 4 colours, the Matt Black is the best for coverage, though I'm repainting my Mordian Imperial Guard and am going for a base coat of Red to match my Catachan force.

I find the White spray a bit thin and have had a couple of tins that don't spray even (especially in the current weather). The Gray is OK but needs to be sprayed lightly as I have found the pigment very thick.

So in order of preference - Halfords Black > Red > Gray > finally White.

On the subject of GW Spray Guns - mine is tempremental - I've tried changing the mixture and the nozzle but either get a fine mist or firehose of paint - given up trying.

Dont bother with the Citadel Spray Gun. The propellent doesnt last all that long and the consitancy of paint to water is difficult to perfect.
Its ok for little things like camo stripes etc but I wouldnt reccomend it over a can of spray paint.

For spray primer I use Halfords grey primer mostly, although have used the red when I've wanted the base coat to be red too.

In order I'd rank it Halfords > Water > Spit > GW for primer :P
