Agreed the current one is the 4th ed codex.. as linked.
(note that niteterror should ignore on 3rd..didn't they have 2nd one for 3rd ed..+ the craftworlds codex as well as a bolt on?)
highly untrustworthy rumourmill says that they may be getting a slightly tweaked revamped rewashed version of the current codex late next year..(basically because of inhouse eldar moaners if the rumours are to be believed)..and if to be believed it won't be a full rewrite (as most of the units are ok) and won't come with full new models support..just a thing to bring it into 5th a bit better and tweak a few things.(so a 3rd codex 4thed..2.0)

Tau and Black Templars are early 4th edition. Eldar, Dark Angels, Chaos Marines, Orks, Chaos Daemons are mid to late 4th (released in that order), Eldar being the first to use the current layout (army list and unit descriptions separated).

Dark Eldar, Necrons, Daemonhunters, and Witch Hunters are 3rd edition.

yeah, by 3rd incarnation i meant that in their history, the eldar have had a total of three codexs, not that the current one has been revised 3 times - sorry for the confusion.

yeah, there was the craftworld add on which i didn't mention - many were very upset that their next codex didn't fully make the most out of the add on. Strange when you think that on the flip side, space pup players moaned about having a mini add on codex for so long ;) (i'm a Dark Angel, any excuse to have a pop at the mutts!)
