Force Weapons - Looks like someone didnt get the memo...

Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Sun Sep 07, 2008 12:22 pm

Hey all :)

noticed something funny (in a  kinda way) in this months WD (#345 UK), and i thought i would share:

on p74, as part of the AoBR batrep, there is a box at the bottom left of the page that talks about Librarians. this is the part that made me chuckle, and then sigh at both the state of the current rules situation and GW's ineptitude at the right hand knowing what the left hand is doing:

"They wield deadly force weapons that creatures of the Warp, such as Daemons, are particularly susceptible to."

thats how it should be. thats how its been for as long as i can remember. but its not the case since 5th ed came out:

- Daemons are immune to ID, and have an Inv Save
- Force Weapons now cause ID, and only ignore Armour Saves

Daemons are probably the least affected army in the whole game when it comes to 5th ed Force Weapons (only a handful of their units can even tell the difference between a FW and a regular CCW - i.e. those that also have Armour Saves)!

its such a stupid situation that the writers of WD seem to have blanked it out...

I guess it could get the generic summoned demon? :)

hmm, good point, i had forgotten that.

although even against the Generic Summoned Greater Daemon, you will have difficulty wounding in the first place (T6, 4+ Inv), so i would hardly say it is "particularly susceptible" (its still less susceptible than the majority of multi-wound models that can be affected, when really, the opposite is true).

what should we, as players with the ability to houserule anything, do about this? should Daemons not get Inv Saves against FWs? should all of them be able to be killed outright by the special attack regardless of their immunity to ID? something else? (re-roll successful saves, take double damage, etc)

or should we leave it as it is and join GW while they spit in the face of the established background? ;)
