Gun Emplacement

Postby RotweillerofJustice » Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:24 am

Ok. So who here remembers the old Airfix Gun Emplacement?

Well I do. In fact have a few floating about and in a fit of boredom one afternoon I wondered how easy it would be to make a similar one for games of 40K.

So here are a few pics of one I have started. One thing I wanted to ask......Does anyone know the size of the footprint for the Earthshaker gun?

By footprint, which bit do you need? The platform it's mounted on? Or the FW mount with 4 legs? I can measure both up when I get home this evening :)

Dan,

I need the four legged platform it sits on if it was put in an emplacement to fire from.

Cheers

It's 8.5" tip to tip, here's a pic: http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Spack6/IMG_4007

Also check out the first few pics here: http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Spack6

I've got the Hydra emplacement, but the base is the same as the one on the Earthshaker.

Lee, you could always buy a 1:35 scale Tamiya German 88 AA gun and use that. I have one and they are about the same size as a Basilisks gun.

The 88, as with all kits based on real weapons, has a very narrow looking barrel compared to the heroic scale (ie completely over the top!) of the 40k weapons.

If you end up replacing all the weapons with 1/35 or 1/48 kits (1/35 works better where you need a larger looking weapon, or a super heavy tank, and 1/48 is about right for Leman Russ equivalent length sized tanks) then it should look ok.
