I actually picked up the 6th ed rulebook

Postby mattjgilbert » Sat Apr 13, 2013 11:31 am

Finally!

Got the mini rulebook from here: http://www.modelbits.co.uk/Warhammer+40 ... lates.html

Although I seem to have got the last one in stock :)

Now I just have to read it and play some games. My marines and daemons both need a work out. There's also that landspeeder storm which needs assembling and that all-scout army I want to field (or close to).

Matt, piece of advice I have learnt from Niges approach to learning 6th, read the whole rules front to back, don't think you know somthing from 5th and skim it, read everything, the rules are mainly bolded but have 2nd pararaphs that take the rule further that are easy to miss if you think that you played 5th so ill just read the changes.

Are there any significant FAQs I should also read that change the rules in the rulebook?

Agreed the look out sir and generally how to take wounds stuff is worth having side by side on first read.

Seconded.

A debate re-the range of a boltgun, perhaps???

Tell you what ruffian old chap, why don't you condense the arguments from those 50 pages of doom for poor old Matt into a few Mattlike bulletpoints..

I thought the argument had been mostly(not watertight) resolved that if a/1 weapon within a pool had a range to effect a whole squad the whole squad was viable death as that was the killzone(my word), even if all the other weapons could only hit one guy.. (whilst a bit abstract (missiles blow bullets further) it balances a lot of the other changes to 6th ed)..honestly after that I just see a grey unicorn shaped like a viola violating a train.

I thought that was clear but the issue was whether the killzone was 12" or 24" for a squad firing 100% rapid fire boltguns?

The maximum range of the weapon in the profile its firing, so 100% rapid fire would be 12. One bolter firing at 24 tho increases the range of all the others to 24 for wound allocation tho o_O

So 24" then, a Boltgun only has 1 profile.

The rapid fire rules explicitly indicate the maximum range of the weapon is not changed.

No.

A "shooting attack" as referenced in the faq, is different to "shooting" in that it is limited by its own factors, ie range, in isolation. So all boltguns shooting twice at a target (unit) with 1 model in 12" can only wound that one model, unless a longer ranged "shooting attack" is also taking place, which extends the "kill-zone."

One of the reasons for this, is that the faq refers to "target models," which shifts the range to "the" target as models are removed.

Ie, the target (unit) becomes the target (model) and so the range increases subject to model positioning, rather than how the book would have it, that the unit is basically as far away as the first model.

Problem is, the faq is in entire contradiction to the book, while being an faq, rather than errata.

See, I told you I wouldn't.
