Discussion of anything 40K related

I need some input

Postby BDJV » Mon Sep 15, 2008 11:28 am

Hey guys,
I’ve been trying to figure out a Kool event for a local game convention next year. I always like to have a theme for the event. Last year I did Warhammer chariot races, it was a hoot and really successful. This year I want to do something 40K themed.

Apocalypse is great fun but I don’t have two Apoc armies. Kill team is neat too but I’ll have a minimum of a 6-hour commitment for the game and KT would end up being way too short.

So I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out a unique 40k event. Then I came up with the idea of running Kill teams using the Inquisitor rules. That should adequately fill up the time I need. It’ll need some streamlining and play testing but it could work.

Or

I could use the Movie Marines list and pit them against Movie Chaos Marines. I’d have to create stats for Chaos Marines but they shouldn’t be that different from Imperial Marines. I could then add some advanced flavor into 40K for the event like shooting modifiers to hit and bring back overwatch.

So which should I do, Inquisitor KT’s or Advanced 40K Movie Marines? Both will involve some rules work, but I think either would be fun.

Either event will take place on a ruined city/industrial table, which I will have to make some groovy terrain for. Both will involve Imperial and Chaos Marines, because that’s the way I roll.

I like the advanced 40k with movie marines idea
you've got the basic rule sets all there.. you get to be all creative on making the chaos marines (I think they can be fairly different..fluff wise humans are meant to sense the force of will and stength they put forth miles off and normally do a little wee :) ou good have them all as psycher types) SO that would be a nice rules dev job..
And then tehre are already some 40k advanced rules (they are hosted on warseer and elsewhere) that contain AP modifiers and things.. you could try to take ideas from that and update it for 5th ed..
And at the end of it you have two things that the wider community would be interested in theiving as well as an interesting small model game display.

It has always been the prerogative of half-wits and fools to point out the Emperor has no clothes, but the Emperor remains the Emperor, and the half-wit remains a half-wit.-The Sandman (The friendly ones)

Thanks for the feedback. I tend to agree advanced 40K with the MM is probably the best way forward. I'll use the MM write-up as a basis and tweak the Marines stats slightly because as is MM are a tad OTT.

I have a set of Advanced 40K house rules I already use, so a little fine tuning may be all I need. I just need to work out how much advancing to dish out on the first outing.

I'll type up a list of the current HR's I use in the rules dev section a little later this afternoon.

When you said chariot racing, I thought of destruction derby style event with orks. But the idea of a few kill teams running round the city smells alot like Counter strike and that is a cool game and would translate great into 40k. Giving each guy x pts to spend on wargear etc before the game and giving them an objective like plant the bomb or save the hostages etc.
