Having come 2nd in last year's Heat 3, the pressure was on. Also they had produced some swanky new trophies, which would have looked great on my mantle peice, if our lass didn't notice... So I was going into this very enthusiastic.

Game 1
Verses: My fellow Space Marines - Natalie
Mission: loot counters & table quarters deployment - loot counters used - 3

First impressions: She sounds like she doesn't know the game too well and I hope she puts those assault dreads towards my base in the centre.

How it panned out: She didn't know the game too well and she put the assault dreadies in the centre of the table to get to my base.

This was good becoz my dreadies came down on her base and ran riot. She deployed he HQ not attached to any unit and never moved for three turns, even though one dreadie was in assault range. I think she was wanting me to charge her in cover so her THammer went at the same time as my dreadie. Anyways, that plan soon change as I targeted him with my MLaunchers. He then ran over and assault the Ironclad and was instantly sent realing across the battlefield.

The highlight for me was when she assaulted the Ironclad with the TL Lassie and ML dreadie, S6. I explained that even though it was also a dreadie, it couldn't hurt mine so she might wanna rethink that move

Result: Win - 2 loot counters to me - and the trophy is on the way
VPs - 730 to me, 223 to her

First impressions: Here we go Tank Shock heaven.

How it panned out: I lost the roll off and he decided to go 2nd. I deployed 2 Tacticals with Rzbks, Termies and HQ and the game started. I moved forward, jumped my termies forward while Eldrad off the table, and ran into cover. Then dropped the 2 DPs and Dreadies close to the target, but not quite on it. Drove the two Rzbks up one with a combat squad in it. His turn 1, everything in reserve, so my turn 2. Kept going forward; spread the termies out into a congo line, tried to hide the dreadies better.

Now this is where it gets silly. His turn 2 he rolls for reserves... nothing comes on!!!. Sh*t. I thought if a couple came on I would have eaten them up. As it turned out, I end up shuffling my guys for a 3rd turn, and not a shot fired

His turn 3 everything comes on except the Avatar... small mercies there then. He immobilises one Dreadie, Explodes the other, shoots the termies with fire dragons and he's sat on his objective witht he wraithguard, farseer and next turn his avatar. His tanks are all on my left flank, all lined up ready to tank shock my base one after the next.

As it turned out my tanks were also in a similar position I thought I would beat him at his own game. But, and don't ask me how, time was running out!. I hadn't fired yet and it's turn 4. A chance to react and shoot back. The termies killed then assaulted the firedragons, they dies, while also assaulting the falcon, and taking it pulse laser, dragons all dead. I fired my DWMLs at the Wraithguard taking one or two of them. My MLs shot the tanks and MISSED.

Eldar 4th turn saw the Avatar arrive, who joined the others on the objective. Not alot of firing, everything was hiding or 'queuing up'. My turn 5 saw me send my 1st tank in with the combat squad on board. He tries DoG with one wraithguard and stuns the tank. His turn 5 he destroys the tank - wrecked This means my guys have to get out on the far side of the tank, only clear exit, and now not contesting. If the game ends this turn I'm gonna loose, as he drives his wave serpant onto my objective in his turn 5. I also attempt DoG with Sgt and MeltaBomb... auto hits it, so 2xD6 to pen. armour 12... I roll a 1 & 2 and the sgt is dead.!!!!

I now look skyward and pray for another turn. It comes, ok, now we have a chance. The 3 remaining combat squad jump up on the wreck to contest... how long they will be there tho is another thing.I need another target to contest so I send on the empty Rzbk... over the wreck... so I roll a DTTest, its a 1!!!.. the tank stops short.... this is just not happening. Right, shoot the WS... I decided to let loose with the 2 MLs and the MM into the rear of the tank. 1st one... MISS 2nd one...MISS 3rd one...MISS arrghghghgh!!!!! f**kit i give in I was thinking, just as I heard... No More Dice rolling please, game is over.

If we hade one more turn my Libby and Termies would have been on the wreck next turn also, but knowing my luck, wouldn't have been there long as the Wraithguard would have shot them and the Avatar would have assalted what was left.

Result: Loss - 1-0 Images of the trophy fading away, the chance gone.
VPs - I forget now. But I didn't kill very much at.. but neither did he.


Game 3
Verses: Dark Angels - Tim
Mission: Anhiltion and DoW deployment

Sammael in speeder
Chaplin on bike
Tactical w/ PW and Plasmagun - Razorback with TL Lascannon
2 x 6 SM Bikes - Attack Bike - Tornado Speeder (AC and HB)
Vindicator

First impressions: He He..my old army. There shouldn't be any suprises at least.

How it panned out: We fired at each others vehicles for 5 turns each adn the only vehicle to die was a Rzbk on turn 5. We both could not roll more than a 2 on the pen rolls, even though there were many times that they were penertrated or glanced.

If it wasn't for the termies jumping about and firing krak missiles at the attack bikes this might have been a draw.

Result: Win - 4kps-2kps
VPs - not aot in it IIRC

Day #1 - results 2-0-1. Mmm not great. I think it's 3-1-0 to have a chance to make the cut for the final, even then though u need to have a good VP score. So tmw I need 1win and 2draws minimum to be sure. No easy feat.

Your first game sounded a little disappointing, that's not the sort of game you want to play at a GT (well, except for the easy win I suppose ).

I can't believe you timed out. I know Gav did with his million-billion orks, but SM v's eldar isn't exactly a model shuffling fest. I managed to get all my games done in 1.5 hours, 2 of them in just over minutes - but I do play fast, maybe my opponents felt they had to too...

Looking forward to day 2...

I hope Mr6 isn't reading this...I've been encourageing him to up his game for 5th by using most of the techniques that the eldar player appears to have used (Mr6 very shy of not getting all the shots as quickly as possible- but fly mech really likes the control of optional (*SAFE*) reserves)

Good write up KInG. Game two sounded strange. How did you manage to spend so much time with nothing to do?!

that is the strange thing. Looking back on it Ijust can't think where all the time went. Maybe WHW passed thru a worm hole at that particular time, I really have no idea.

I recal going for a coffee at some point, but it wasn't as tho it took ages to get served. If it had been my only loss I might have been gutted.. You'll see in part2 tonight.

i was hoping u forgot... like me.

Let's see, day 2, who did I play? The two game that stand out at the Tau player from Scotland, what a sh*t game that was, i lost, he made my cry and if I play him in the final I'm gonna request that I don't.

He questioned everything I told him rules wise, I had the rulebook perminately in my hand showing him I was right... and at one point he said I was being perdantic.... well the smile never returned to my face thereafter and I made him play exactly to the rules, but all that fooking on put me right off and I lost.

The last gamewas eldar, he was a painter not a fighter, and it was an easy win, but a win is what I needed after loosing the game before. A draw and I would have missed the final, so the pressure was on. I managed to hold my cool and squeeze out and win while battering an Avatar in combat with termies and tacticals with PFs. phew...

So March is fast approaching and i'm gaming like mad, trying to become familiar with my Khorne Daemon list so I don't look like a complete noob come the 14th.

Anyway - sorry to hear about your time warp experiance as well as the Scottish Michael Hunt Tau player.

I only have 1 GT experiance and it was not positive!

In my total of 18 GT games so far, that was the only one I didn't really enjoy. So I'm still enjoying my GT experience thus far.
