Land Raider!

Postby reaver13 » Mon Aug 18, 2008 7:37 pm

This is mainly a useless post, but since my wife fails to understand how awesome this is, I shall share with this moment with my fellow gaming brethren...

I just got my Land Raider in the mail! Yes, anti-climactic I know, but in a life filled with work, work, and more work... this is about as good as it gets!

On a more serious note, with the new LRC/LRR combo box coming out what do you guys think is going to be a more viable "line-breaker"? Those massive flamers of the LRR look like some nice crispy death, but you get a few less occupants in them. I want to use my LR for shuttling a command squad around, but definately want at least 1 or 2 more LR variants for downright troop devastating power. I think I'm going to field the LRR, how about you guys?

Out of curiousity(sp?), is the LRTU able to be fielded in a non-apoc FOC?

wots a LRTU

personaly i would got for the crusader as it will still fire all weapons, due to POTMS, although one is at BS2, unless ur GK land raider is the one shooting.

Flamers are cool, but u need close range. at least the crusader can go tankhunting after delivery of its cargo, or even shoot while going back to collect more troops.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be tournament legal but in a friendly game if you asked..? Possibly.

I have a LRC waiting to be built, but when the new codex comes out, I want to add an LRR to my force. It has the close in troop devastating power you want, and it can hold up to 12 models which should more than take care of your command squad. If you plan on purchasing the new variant when it comes out, your choice now is to do LR, LRC ot LRTU. I would personally got for the LRC because you can get it close in, drop your troops and use it for close assault support. The LRTU doesn't have the ability to transport any troops.
Also, for the same points as the LRTU, you could field 2 Predator Annihilators, giving 2 twin linked turret lascannons and 4 sponson mounted lascannon, along with the ability to split your field of fire. Just a few thoughts. TW

The Terminus Ultra is a Legendary Unit in Apocalypse.
Would take a very good friend to allow you to have that in a normal game :D

Apparently the LRR isn't as good as first thought, in that the 'Flamestorm' Cannon doesn't use the Inferno Cannon rules, so its range is severely limited. It still seems good to me, and the model looks great...some are just saying it's not as UBER as some would like on a 250 point tank.

Our Group lets the Terminus Ultra be used in standard 40K games, especially seen as in some cases it's the only AT some use.
Just wait for the REAL Apocalypse.
Then you'll see SHOCK & AWE.
Amen!

The landraider crusader is chock full of awesome...It is anti infantry- it supports assualting troops that may not have frags (such as termies) It can move and shoot. So it has multi purpose battlefield roll. The others are just not quite basilisks  ... (nah I love my chaos landraider)
But lets look to the future a bit... the new power of the machine spirit steals what used to be chaos's fire control (removed because people moaned it was cheesy). so one weapon pointing somewhere else... now who does that help most..if your fighting a tank you'll generally want both lasscannons pointed at a tank.. but if your a crusader you can say hurricane bolters at the eldar asscan\ multimelta at the big scary thing... (etc)..
I think the thing to wish\ foretell about the future codex is this... if pintle mounted multimeltas come as standard on new landraiders for them...does that mean an LRC can have 2 multimeltas??? If so how much (if its les than 15 points that covers its one major gap quite nicely)
It has always been the prerogative of half-wits and fools to point out the Emperor has no clothes, but the Emperor remains the Emperor, and the half-wit remains a half-wit.-The Sandman (The friendly ones)

I have:

2 LRC Gk doors
1 LR Gk doors
1 LR Pro Inq doors
and just bought on ebay another
1 x LR for my DA

I didn't want to re do the existing ones as DA as the GKs love their raiders and I get my 3 raider list out now and again to make sure my opponents keep enuff anti armour in their general lists! ;)

GKs have one of the largest armouries of Land Raiders, according to the fluff in IA2. So it is quite a fluffy list really.

My DA will just have to have their own raiders, at which point I may try a LRR just for the variety.

Think about the playing group as well. The Redeamer is not in the BT Codex so you may find it difficult to use in tournaments and depending on your local gamers it may not be as useful in store games.

8O good call Ben. My Templars may have to play by the new SM codex under the guise of the Dark Knights or something equally as stupid sounding! Nah, I have been contemplating making Crimson Fists as well, so this may give rise to slowly fielding an army of them to play under the new codex and field all the new goodies. That LRR just looks _good_ to me, and I must have it! :P
