hiya Jimster.. I'm afraid I fail at knowing what to do..
DO you want theme ideas for the campaign force (if so handy to know what kind of campaign and what sort of guys interest you (??? :p ). If not.. whats the rest of your force based around is a good place to start for where you take the leman russ idea.
If you mean for modelling the leman russ. Depends on the rules of the tourney (% GW, based off GW,Counts as alloweds?) If counts as... what kind of load out are you giving it..(so we know what kind of counts as might be compatible, e.g. a ballista is a good counts as for a medival basilisk due to the representation of its firing mode)
And then do you want different types of camo and paint jobs...
But before you pin it down too far..here are some pics of WW1 tanks that might help inspire mods (since the leman russ is basically a ww1 tank I figure you can amp it up ..like real life timelines did)
http://wio.ru/tank/ww1tank.htm
This is the google image search for leman russ's
http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=GW% ... a=N&tab=wi
(might be worth trawling through 15 pages for ideas)
and here is a mighty fine ork konversion one (just to show quite how only imagination limited they can be

Looking forward to further instructions :)

I can't find the picture from the rogue trader rulebook that depicted him before he was retconned into a space marine primarch.

I have the top right leman russ and the bottom centre model that I think became dante (golden mask etc )..I think you should do him based off a monstrous creature crossed with a werewolf myself.. I mean they are more feral.. Whats the fugitives view on him (in 4chan spek "stat him!!")

I have that Leman Russ too (the top left is the same model as top right, just with the backpack on :P), and I have the Lord Macragge and the DA captain too. I traded the UM, BA, and SW captains on that page for a Leman Russ tank, but I still have the other 2 captains on the bottom row. That Russ is a little shorter than the current marine models.

Ideally you want a model larger than a marine by a head or two, and suitably feral looking. There are quite a few kicking around other people have made, how about taking the features you like from each and creating your own unique version?

Here are a couple more to add to those posted by Angelwing
