Postby richie2837 » Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:15 pm

id be interested to hear anyones ideas on how an imperial guard tank can be necronified, or from any necron collectors in general to chat about this much overlooked and under resourced race
I have come to kick ass and chew bubblegum. And I'm all out of bubblegum.

I don't think any non-necron vehicle is going to look suitably necron enough. Have you thought about creating some obelisk shapes in various sizes, similar to the one in the Apocalypse datasheet? Or look at the BFG ships for ideas on making aircraft to use as skimmers, the smaller fighters are like crescents with the points swept forward and little pyramids on the back, so something similar might work too.

I'm reading Hell Forged at the moment and am just on the part where a necron harvester hits the Ravaenian city, it's described as a giant metallic beetle with a tail that eats up everything in sight and recycles useful materials. Maybe something like a huge scarab might work.

An IG tank with necron bits is always going to look like an IG tank with necron bits rather than something that fits with the necron look and feel, unless you add so much to it that it's no longer recognisable as an IG tank in which case you'll probably find none of the tank is visible and you could have created the same shape from scratch and save the tank for scenery :)

well i dont know if you would convert imperial technology into the necron race........they dont essentially work that way and tbh i think most ppl would get a bit of a bag on when it comes to Necrons fielding other armys weaponary...however have a look at it a different way:

Thanks all for the advice. Is it just me or are Necrons a bit overlooked by GW anyway? There's not been a new release for....ever! Are the Necron's not very popular amongst hobbyists?

Any other Necron collectors out there who want to start a support group? Necrons Need Love Too!

I think with some plasticard work on the hull and some minor reshaping it could work for a tank. It would probably want to hover like the 'lith and any gun barrels can easily be replaced with the normal plastic rods (thickness as appropriate).

I have necrons... I'm not playing them much at all right now as I'm waiting for the new book and am concentrating on my daemons at the moment. I have a load of necrons sitting round waiting to be assembled and painted (a weekend's work) however so will spend some time on those at some point.

A good idea would be to have a swarm of scarabs swarming around it and in it, converting it's tech to cron, maybe you could have a half formed crystal burting out of the top and some gauss stuff being formed as well... :jetbike01:

to be honest an imperial tank doesnt need to be converted at all just one hell of a paint job, you could paint an eirie green glow on all lights and openings and paint it slightly in the colour of your necron army.

you then could say it was possessed like in the game dawn of war when you could use a necron lord destroyer to possess any vehicle

One other idea is to cut the center part of the gun barrel out and replace it with a colored acrylic rod making it a heavy gauss cannon.

I think it might be quite "easy" to mod a tank. You could also blank off the track compartments and mount the thing on a flying base just off the ground (an inch say).
