Poor Man's Death Korps

Postby Ben » Tue Sep 16, 2008 1:25 am

Well, I have had the worst possible luck with Forge World but I want a Death Korps army. I was thinking of picking up something in the mean time and since the price is low I think I won't feel bad if I drop them for the real thing later (minimal investment means minimal switching cost).

There are French.

There are German.

I get Old Glory at 40% off so those are $8.70 for a squad of 10. So a Squad of 10 is about the same as 1 DKoK. [/quote]

I was just wondering what you guys think.

If I had the bits in plastic (and had any interest in any kind of greatcoat guard), I'd make them myself and use Pig iron's gasmask heads - but then, I've had nothing but bad experiences with FW stuff.

That said, PIPs Kolony militia are quite nice, too.

I like those as well but they are $28 for 10. That is a bit higher than I want to pay if I can help it.

Have you seen any WW1 plastics?

Not in 28mm (but admittedly, I've also not really looked). I suppose the old Warzone Imperial trenchers might work (tommy helmets, gasmasks and long coat-like garb) as well (they're cheap, too).

Since I use my (IG) minis for a tactical cyberpunk-type game as well (like necromunda, but more corps v punks than gang vs gang, but that does happen as well), I like my regular grunt guys to be more modern.

After a bit of digging, I found this lot, but nothing in greatcoat guard.

Eureka miniatures, a local company (for me) who do pretty good work, and have a fantastic customer service policy. Not the exaggerated proportions of GW, and lacking some detail, but plenty of gamers here have used their stuff.

I want 10 of those, but supply seems to have dropped away (and aint cheap), unless my search skills have let me down again.

For greatcoat guard, have you thought of bretonnian men at arms + cadian arms and pig iron/secrets of the third reich heads???

There's a build guide around somewhere.
I have 1 assembled but can't find the bloody thing.

I like the look of some of the eureka stuff, quite err esoteric (?) some of it.
Especially have an eye open re their 1980's soviet nbc suit guys.
