Purity seals

Postby Freddie the fist » Tue Sep 29, 2009 8:57 pm

Do'es anyone know if different colour purity seals (the wax bit) on a space marine sybolizes anything? I normally paint red ones but want to try another colour on some of my marines. Wasnt sure if chapters only use one colour of if it depends on some heroic act or skill the sm has done or has.

I've not read a huge amount of fluff but I don't recall ever reading anything about different colours having different meanings.

Doesn't seem to make much difference. I notice that chapters with blue armor have red seals, while chapters with red armor seem to have green ones.
I guess it doesn't really matter, it is the legibility of the text that is important anyway!
I think bottom line is that you can make them whatever color you like.
They seem to have less importance now anyway, since last codex they cost points but they aren't even mentioned in the new codex.

If it looks cool to you, I doubt it would look stupid to anyone else.
If they think it looks stupid, beat them in a game!

Those are all awards that the player made up for his army. It says so in the text at the top. It is an interesting idea, but I hate taking a brush to a mini after I have "finished" painting it.

In my opinion, the colour of the wax should fit with the general colour scheme of the army. Thats all thats important.

I guess the question is what does this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Insignium-Astar ... 870&sr=8-1
have to say about it.
I'm not in the right place so can't look it up right now.. but to me, its just that regal/posh seals (almost) always use red http://images.google.co.uk/images?hl=en ... CCEQsAQwAA I mean you don't see a contract letter in a 16th century will of a wealthy land owner being sealed with just plainwhite candle wax do you (theres probably some incredible reason for that but I have no idea what it is)
Barely even lurking..

There is no mention of colour for purity seals in Insignum Astartes. Just says they're wax initially, but can be solid electrum as a permanent fixture.

Personally, on my blood angels, I like blue seals as a nice contrast.

I use green on my Red Hunters for contrast. I think that is the key to make them stand out, use a complimentary colour so that they don't just blend into the rest of the model.

I didnt read the top bit so i didnt realize the guy made it up. (thats my problem i never read stuff through) and i wasnt going to repaint my models only the ones that i have yet to paint. Anyway i think im going to just stick to red. It still looks good if not a little boring to paint. Cheers for all the advice guys.
