Don't waste money buying paint labelled as "primer" because for an airbrush, you can prime with pretty much any paint you want.
You just have to get the consistancy of the paint correct.
Here's a link to a great airbrush site, has lots of tutorials and info.

Good luck with it, you'll have to take pics and post your results!

TW, I'd still recommend a proper primer as this will provide a good base for paint to adhere to. Just because it's an airbrush it doesn't change the adherence properties of the paint - proper primers are designed to adhere to the the base material (plastic, metal, etc) better than paint will, and it provides a better surface for the paint to adhere to.

When I had my airbrush, Unfortunately it fell victim to a rather nasty ex during a split), I used to still prime with aerosol primers. I couldn't find a primer I liked for the airbrush.

@Spack - Good point. When I last used an airbrush (like 3 or 4 millenia ago!) I believe I used Tamiya paints which worked well for a primer coat, but I also was diluting them with denatured alcohol so maybe that was the difference.
You don't think the new acrylics would work well?

I'm assuming that if you were using alcohol as a thinner that the paints were not water based acrylics? If so, then they'd likely have better adherence than water based acrylics and so you'd be able to get away with not using a primer.

With GW acrylics I'd never put paint on a figure without a real primer basecoat, whether with an airbrush, spray, or by brush. Had far too many occurrences of paint simply flaking off because it doesn't stick very well to metal/plastic/resin.

To be fair to acrylics, they are not designed to stick to those things either.

Good tip and good advice then.
The Tamiya specifically said to thin them with alcohol for airbrush use, so that was probably the difference.
