See as a fluff player I don't 100% like the idea of allies, IG and SM or choas (as traitors) fine but ork boyz with necron warriors or eldar with daemons don't sit well. So for me its like minded people again, if its fluffy allies fine, uber powerful but fluffy fine, crap army with unrealistic allies I have a problem.

It will be an optional or advanced rule anyway

I don't remember it being optional or advanced last time. But yes allies could be mutually dropped with like minded players.
As for whos able to ally with who.... If there is a chart with penalties the more stretched you make it, fair enough. But if anything goes, the it's purely down to which codecies you want to use.
I've heard of elder and necrons being used as Adeptus Mechanicus. So then using the Guard Codex along side Necron Codex sound reasonable.
You could say an Ork Wierd Boy tried to increase Da Powa of his Boyz and have some funky looking orks using the Deamon Codex.

Here's the doubles tournament rules with the allies matrix in it. Most people seem to think the allies rule will work along these lines

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_Cus ... e_2012.pdf
"The guns have stopped because we are at last about to attack. Even our generals aren't mad enough to shell their own men, they think its far more sporting to let the Germans do it!"

Capt Edmund Blackadder, the Somme, 1917.

Will Allies see an end to Codex Creep (Except for Nids) lol. I think it really is a genius idea, every time a new codex comes out all you do is cherry pick the elements you like (which will be the expensive box sets) and add them to your own dwindling core force. Im certainly going to add some close combat troops to my Necrons Ill just make up some fluff....Brilliant

chris i will gladly enter into an unholy alliance with your shooty necrons, can u imagine an army that shoots with gauss and melees with anything
that way you dont even have to buy any extra figures - result

I'm not having Alied Necrons. Just gonna steal a Necron Deathmark and use it as a Vindicare using Vindicare rules.

The cynical might suggest this was behind the rather large price increase in the building kits a few weeks ago..... ;)

How could you possibly suggest that GW are capable of such a cynical marketing ploy! 8O

That seems reasonable.

The way I see it though, is allies is an excellent vehicle for counts-as.
Like I said before, orks count as beastmen.
Do I want orks in my world eaters army? No. I like the sound of beastmen skirmishers. How best to represent them? Ork allies.

As long as its kept simple and obvious, no problem.

Or, possibly I want to revisit my latd list.
Orks = all manner of mutants.
