Scratch Built heavy Tank project

Postby Jay » Wed Dec 05, 2007 2:36 pm

I've deciced to stop buying models and focus on painting my exisitng ones and try scratch building a few things from the acculmated cardboard/wood and bits I have stuffed in my room. So I've decided to try build a tank based upon either The Malcador Heavy Tank or the Macharius Vanquisher.

Just wondering do you guys have any tips for scratch building and is there any place to find data sheets for the above tanks as I just plan to use the exact same weapon layout and stats depending on which one I build.

I built a card rhino as part of my art gcse years ago.

The best tip i can give you is to plan the parts on paper first and then build the prototype part from paper. If the part works flatten the paper and use it as a template for the card version.

If you are photocopying the plans don't forget to remove the originals, I left my originals in redcar library so I could only make one :(

Don't leave the original copies of the plans in the photocopier.

When I build the card rhino I followed these Steps.

1. Get measurements from plastic rhino.
2. Draw rough flat pattern on paper.
3. Cut out pattern and test assemble.
4. Redraw pattern fixing any size or position problems.
5. Add glue tabs to the pattern.
6. Photocopy pattern.
7. Build Model.

Going to build a leman russ or baneblade first as test (strangely the template for a baneblade looks MUCH easier then a russ), cheers for the tips watch this space
