UKGT Heat 3 discussion thread

Postby Ljundhammer » Mon Oct 19, 2009 1:27 pm

I thought it would be good to get a thread going on how we are all doing...

My DeathWing need a lick of paint on a Land Raider Crusader, but other than that, I'm good to go. Play testing is progressing well, but with only 19 models in the army, a run of bad luck is not what I need at any point!

Heat 1 is now done & the results (from here: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthrea ... 944&page=2) are:

Mad Larkin UK wrote:Lots and lots of guard, and a surprising lack of 2 lash/9 oblits, Nob bikers and Eldar seer council. There were some, but not as many as in previous years. The top armies were also very varied and not the stack of cheese i was expecting:

Top 10:
1: Fernando Castanon, (Space marines with 2 land raiders+10 thunderhammer terminator, nominated for best painted)
2: Demetrius Tampakoudis, (Space marines with 1 land raider + 5 thunderterms, dreadnought, nominated for best painted)
3: Joshua Roberts, (Orks with Ghaz and 4 battlewagons)
4:Alejandro Martin Fernandez (Orks, i dont know what)
5: Gareth Jones (Balanced eldar)
6: Jose Delgado(Daemons)
7: Rob Madely (Daemons)
8: Alex Whitehead (2 seer council eldar)
9: Martin Ramsden (Eldrad + 2 prisms, 4 wave serpent eldar)
10: Leonidas Laskardis (Fluffy world eaters chaos, 2 land raiders + 2 units of zerkers, won the chosen of khorne award with 7800 vps :-)!!!!!! BFTBG!

In total qualifiers we have:
Space marines : 8
Chaos marines :10
Eldar :6
Chaos Daemons :4
Imperial guard:4
Orks:7
Dark Angels:2
Tyranids:2
Dark Eldar:1
Tau:1

Other bit from the thread that was interesting was harrythesmuck
"i was shocked that you needed 111pts to get through this year. in the past years 102pts was the cut off depending on VP's."
thats the difference in you not typing in the box clearly you know :o

You're obsessed with the form man! They aren't going to dock points unless it's wrong, incorrectly added up, or in wingdings. Don't panic Mr Manwaring, don't panic!

Yeah, 111pts is a high level, I got it last time, but my VPs were poor & I probably wouldn't make the cut! Still, the pressure that you can only lose 1 game is on! Also, if 111pts is the cut off, then the standard at the top is higher, meaning that someone's got to be the whipping boy (I'm hoping it won't be me :()

Fixating on that form is the only joy I have left..
Due to everyone hating on my bases I've decided to steal those bases off your big mate..chainsaw be damned.
Of course removing the click fit awesomeness of detachable bases meant that all of my attack bikes have now fallen to pieces with the force required to de base them..
So I'm currently trying to reglue them and touch up the mashed up paint work ..and then put them on those bases(without super cool click fittyness) tick tock tick tock.
And then start looking at making the green snot base look like all the others (more chisel work- because the others won't deliberately go snot).
I think we need to practise against the battlewagon of doom (especially with that judge (singular to my knowledge) saying that defrollers can ram )

Updates are available here:
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=3864

Managed to get the 2nd Vindi 95% assembled last night, might have a slight overspill into Weds for finishing assembly as I have to hand deliver some stuff tonight to make sure it gets where it needs to be (postal strike).

Good (relatively speaking) news is that due to some "issues relating to selection policy" with my Saturday football team, I've decided preparing for GT is more important, so have gained 3 sets of peak hours on a Saturday to paint away.

Bad news is that I miss one club night before GT as I got tickets to the Arsenal v Liverpool Carling Cup game, and also need to check if the Arsenal v Standard Liege I'm going to is club night or the night before, and I'm in Barcelona for another club night. Technically this means I'll be better prepared than the AoS tournament though, where I hadn't played for about 8 months before (yeah, I may be volunteering for whipping boy status :help - well, TBH I think my biggest problem will be not being spot on the money in terms of prioritising the right targets in my opponents' lists, I'm reasonably comfortable with what I'm using).

Yeah, sounds like terrible news :?

Good job you're a Gooner, as we'll have something to talk about on table 50-odd! Hopefully Arsenal'll be on Sky over the weekend, as I play very fast & had to watch Tottenham last year!

Mainly because I want to use my own army :)

It's my back up if things are not looking good in the run up to the 13th Nov registration deadline.

I wouldn't use the same list, I wasn't happy about how it stood up in CC, I have a few ideas on how I'd change it. If you see 1500pt BA lists start appearing under my name.......

i wouldn't read to much into the cc thing sami with the ba, as most armies crumble infront of khorne in combat. u just need to shoot more of them and coming on like u did just helped my cause. if u had come on further away i would have suffered more. plus my ds'ing went very well.

as for my list, it progresses slowly. im ill now tho so just about managing to get to work, but not alot more. looks like it will be 3 basic collurs again.

What screwed me was firing my units in the wrong order, leaving the Termies unable to assault (not saying that denied me victory, but it pretty much guaranteed a loss). Even 3 or 4 'letters make a big hole in squads, IMO with MEQs in a lot of cases it's better to launch the assault to deny 'letters the FC and +1A, and more importantly strike at the same time as the Hellblades instead of after.

I’ve been playing my SM list at every opportunity but am still filled with first time doubts and fears, Ill be happy to win one game out of the six, but I’m really pleased I’ve now got a fully painted army to put on the table, (Even if they are really Black Templars hiding in the SM codex waiting for an update)
