Postby da_grot » Fri Dec 08, 2006 5:11 pm

Im lookin at adding some voystrons to my small SOB army, however having never played guard im not to sure what to put in.

Im looking for about 500 pts at the moment, but any advice is welcome.

The way my Witch Hunter's army functions is like this: a firebase of 2x8 storm troopers, with 2 plasma guns in each squad; and an 8 sister retributor squad armed with heavy bolters stay back and lay down some covering fire for my advancing dominion squad, my canoness, my russ, and my 2 armoured fist squads. I only incorporated guard in order to take the russ, and since I wanted a mobile force, armoured fists were the way to go. I've found that they provide an excellent punch for a points cost of under 500. Arm them with missle launchers and grenade launchers. The blast each provides can more than make up for the BS 3. I really suggest looking into a russ. Hard as nails. Another bright side, you only have to paint 20 models and 2 chimeras.

For starts, you can't add Vostroyans to the WH army, not as Vostroyans anyway. You can use the models as "vanilla" IG, but you can't use any doctrines with them.

If you want to use the Vostroyan doctrines too, then you will need to take an IG army with those doctrines and then add the SoB as allies.

I don't tend to mix IG with my DH army, so I can't suggest what to take. Maybe try taking options you don't get in the SoB units, such as taking some lascannons and plasmas.

Yea i knew about not using the doctrines. I am very tempted to add lots of moratr squads, Ive become addicted to the idea of mortars (even looting some and adding them to mu orks is tempting at the moment).

Just wondering what do people think make good choices in aupport squads for command squads?

I think a good support squad option is 3 missile launchers as there are pretty decent at taking out tanks and light infantry, for fire support squads heavy bolters give you more shots and str5 aint to be sniffed at tho autocannons are probably what i would go for. hope thats helpful
