oh yes it most certainly does.

dont have a clue what to use it as yet, but i will probably have to adapt to a new codex by the time its ready anyway, so no panic on that front.

il have a spare missile loading servitor from the Exorcist by then, too...

anyway, these pics are good news for my wallet: theres only 2 things so far that i am going to buy (well, besides the Codex itself of course): the Cannon and the Scout Bikers. everything else looks great (mostly), but theres too much UM iconography for me (and while i could use Cantor in my own Fist-themed force, he's too busy looking). which is nice, because its stopping me catching the "shiny shiny" from it. :P

but that Cannon!!!

dont get me wrong, its great for UM players - i dont begrudge you that at all. its just it would be too much effort for me to remove (its enough effort for me to get all the mould lines off  ).

personally i would prefer it if they made "blank" models and included a small sprue of little icons that you could add as desired... hmm maybe i should suggest that while we at WHWorld.

back to the pics:
i dont like Chronus' big helmet, and the tank commander is underwhelming. i dont like the Redeemer (looks like someone has stuck Inq scale weapons on the sides of a Landraider). everything else is good. i love the "stalking" Veteran (bottom left with a Bolter), and the central Jump Packer (remove the Pack and he would make a very dynamic Emp's Champ...).

cheers

Ooooohhhh...shinies...

Drop Pods...
Thunderfire Cannon...
Too many new toys...

Well, it looks as though my Red Hunters are going to be gaining some new items for their Company Armoury.

"At the end of time, the one with the most toys wins." and I will definately be in contention!

Like the new Land Raider too. I notice the weapon sponson is in the forward hatch position, unlike the existing codex. Having it in the rear position always seemed odd to me.

Sergeant to troops, "Okay men, follow Corporal Wheat out the forward hatch! Gunner, fire the hurricane!"

Corporal Suey to Sergeant, "He's shredded Wheat, now!"

Sergeant, "Never mind him Suey, fall out, chop chop!"

Sorry! I got caught on a tangent! 8)

Removing the range abstraction by not using the hull for measuring was, IMO, a stupid move on GW's part. If you look at the box for the Land Raider I'm pretty sure at least one photo has the lascannons in the forward postion, and at least one in the rear. I'm positive it's the case on the Crusader box photos.

Anyway, has any seen confirmation as to whether these are heavy flamers or inferno cannons? They are identical to the FW Siege Dreadnought infernon cannon, and the Baneblade used the more traditional style heavy flamer sponsons, but I'm sure I'd read that the sponsons would be heavy flamers.

Fluff-wise, yes it is strange. Game-wise, it makes deploying larger units much easier. Trying to fit a 10 or 15 man unit within 2" of the front hatch can be problematic.

But you can deploy from the front assault hatch and the rear hatches as well. Admittedly it does spread the unit out a little, but a 15 man unit can certainly deploy with no trouble.
Edit:And of course you can fire through your own units without penalty, so the location of the weapon sponsons doesn't effect that part. The only effect would be the firing range of the sponson weapon (in 4th ed.)

It never made sense to me having the Las-Cannons towards the rear of the vehicle.
It always meant that your Marines were effectively blocking your line of fire.. Though I'm sure the rules blag there way round that. Bit like the Terminus Ultra really :D
Though I do agree with Culven's reasoning for having it that way.

The Land Raider Prometheus I made, had the weapons to the front... Made more sense to me. Not withstanding the extra inch of range I gained.. :P
