But did you buy your GW army second hand like the Golf stuff? Does it cost £15 - £30 (or considerably more) for each GW game etc. Hobbys are a scheap or as expensive as you make them was the point I was making.

WH40k and Wh have enough players to be sutsainable, otherwise GW would cease to exist as well.

Yes GW figs can be expensive, but no one is twisting your arm to buy them, yes the rules could be improved, well there ARE other sets out their. Like all Hobbies, its what you make of it.

I think the main reason why the new rule book is so large is that GW don't want our arm muscles to waste away due to lack of use. Your armies used to be made up of at least 60-70% metal, now they (GW) have done away with metal so it is lighter to lug an army around. The caring folk at GW dont not want their customer base (loyay subjects) loosing fitness by giving up their once or twice a week weight lifting sessions :D :P

I have read all on this thread and like every thing else in the world. It's all down to personal preference.

I have been gaming for 30 years (mostly historical) and played (think it was) 2nd Ed. Got back into 40K cos my 2 boys wanted to play and i started them off on FOW/other historical.

I have enough armies ranging from 100BC to 2500AD to not worry about 6th ed and stick to 5th - we have a group of 4 of us at our club.

BUT having said that i may eventually get book as i find the back grounds etc as good a read as any book as do my kids - my 9 year old is a walking 40k wikki!!!! even though by GW rules he is too young - another bug bear especially around Games day time when he can't go!

Still one whinge at a time

Is it good or as bad as we feared?

Well judging by the pics and the description, the new rulebook loks to be almost 50% bigger than the last one.

But I agree that it would have been nice to have the option of buying a "rules only" version for abut half the cost.

just a thought now that 6th edition is upon us, as GW obviously doesnt like/want/need 5th edition can i grab em coz i did like em. From now on ill call it 'mchammer 40k+' , you can still use GW codex's (im not greedy) but you must all pay me 10p for every game played :D
