Nothing wrong with 2nd ed. Apart from the Virus Outbreak Strategy Card.....
"The guns have stopped because we are at last about to attack. Even our generals aren't mad enough to shell their own men, they think its far more sporting to let the Germans do it!"

They where all last edition codexs. As well as Blood angels. There are 6 5th edition codexs still to be done up on GWs site if you care to take a look.

I just read the latest WD. Theres nothing new to add here from there rules wise. But there was a report on the side of the page about some game testing that has been going on. They talked about a DA player letting Ezekiel use one of the new mechanics and turning himself into a Bloodthirster and then winning the game, only to get ribbed and chastised by fellow players for the DA turning to the daemon to win a game.

Does anyone else see this differently to them like I do... the in game fluff is dead!!!

As much as I like to play to win, and look for the best list in my codex to do so, I hate the idea of being able to do this kind of thing in game. I didn't like Allies for the same reason, forces fighting alongside each other opening up lots of mad combos, now we still have that but on a much larger scale. They seem to want to take all the competitiveness from the game and have it wide open so you can't ever have a game in the confines of a competitive balanced rules set and army list :(

Nige, not sure but maybe with the new Psychic phase there could be a miscast table similar to WH. Having not read it I may be well wide of the mark but that could be what happened to Ezekiel. But I agree with you, if you are allowed to do things like that then it looks like GW may have finally killed the game.

Agree on all points. But I feel the same about 6th, never mind the 7th rumours.

Much as I hate to admit it, BOLS have a good article that I mostly agree with here
When in deadly danger
When beset by doubt
Run in little circles
Wave your arms and shout

And another one with even more of my thoughts here :

http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2013/12/ ... e-40k.html

This is how I look at 40k now, just a casual knock about when I don't want to have a competitive game.

It's an expensive hobby though to just play for fun to me, because I don't really play for fun.

That is why a lot of people have left the game, two main reasons.

To find competitiveness with a balanced rule set. And the other, to find the fun they crave at a cheaper point cost.

I only see further decline for 40k in the coming years.

Looking at my other games now played. The dzc tourney scene seems to be building, there's one tmw in a local shop I'm gonna visit. It's a game with a lot of depth like 40k with the fluff behind it also, and artwork now, etc.. but with a much more balanced rule set, also with a lot of tactical depth and flavour, and the models are more affordable.

And then bolt action, which I think is really cheap, and is also balanced, but not a lot of depth to the game and based on real history which can only ever go so far story wise and model wise.

Those two give me all I need right now and 40k is going to take a back seat, unless this new rule set belays all my fears and concerns, which ATM is sounding highly unlikely.

(from memory) Allowed the grand master to use "Malefic Daemonolgy" powers ...reduced to one wound he sacrificed himself and became a bloodthirster.(paraphrasing a bit but the term in capitals sounds like a mechanic/ option had to be chosen)
On the plus side tau and marines aren't super allies anymore. They are desperate.
(Nids still get sucked down)

24th of may is release date.. next saturdays white dwarf will list all the changes.

You kids do moan alot, hip replacements are on me :P .
Pushed 6th ed down to 2 yr lifespan due to all the vocal "haters"
Most timely faqs ever compared to last 2 editions.
Brought back all the diversity of index astrates books (but charged a bomb for it)
"game's too mechanical I can see where everything is going just by the list"- stuck randomness on everything.
"I hate waac" destroyed the tourney scene and forced friendliness on people who forgot friendly means having a talk about things.
Sounds like they read here and were too quick to try to please.

Preview of the thinking behind the foc changes.

Im still undecided at the moment.
But I think we should hold off on our campaign until the new release.

Confirmation that "Summon Shark" is the 6th power in the Malefic deck:

some blogger wrote:I spoke with my FLGS guy who talked to the GW rep this morning. Not all of my questions were answered, but here is what I heard that is not something already all over the internet. This assumes the GW rep had his facts straight, and the FLGS guy relayed them correctly via the game of telephone.

Battle Brothers

Eldar/DE
Chaos/Daemons
All Imperium

All others were convenience, desperate or apocalypse.

No answer as to whether you can join units of battle brothers.

Psychic Phase

Roll a D6 and add the total mastery levels of all your psykers. You get that many power dice and your opponent gets that many DTW dice.

To cast a power, you need to roll a 4+ for every warp charge of the power you're using. So warp charge 2 = two 4+, meaning you'd need 4 power dice to have an average shot.

Your opponent dispels the power with a roll of a 6 on their dice. So the more dice they have, the more shots they get at rolling that 6 to cancel out that critical power. I was told that the mastery level of the psyker dispelling the power lowers the roll needed to dispel it. So a ML2 psyker dispels on a 5+, ML3 on a 4+. etc...

That is what I was told.

That seems wrong to me because Fateweaver, Eldrad and Ahriman could dispel anything on a 3+. More likely, I would think you compare mastery levels between the casting psyker and the dispelling psyker, and apply a bonus that way. This is conjecture. What I wrote above is what I was told.

What I also don't know is if there is a dice limit a psyker can use to cast or dispel a power based on their mastery level. I also don't know if you need two 6's to dispel a ML2 power. I assume you do.

You would figure Adamantium Will would give you +1 to DTW for powers cast at a unit with that rule.

Jink Save

Jink is a 4+, however it is no longer always on. You must declare a jink to claim it, and if you do so, it's snapshots only in the next phase.

Sweeping Advance

Unchanged. You do not consolidate into a new combat.

And that's all I got that's new! So you can go runtelldat.
