7th edition latest

Postby Jay » Mon May 05, 2014 9:44 pm

I'd risk eating my hat and call this more fact then rumours, basically there is a new type of List building method and to me it sounds abhorrent. You have Unbound and Battle Forged lists. Battle forged is basically to my understanding not much different then current FoC/Allies/Detachments/Formation list building but now you get a bonus of some kind. I guess like how they brought the Apoc bonuses in formations so perhaps a battle forged bonuses might be race/chapter specific or something to encourage you to use a base setup.

This is where things get silly. Unbound is literally whatever you want in an army. No FoC, no restriction other then the allies matrix. 6 Riptides? No problem, army of flyers? Totally legit. An army made up of various chapter masters - go for it. To me this is terrible, I really want to get into playing but if I turned up with a balanced army to face an unbound list I'd just flat out refuse to play. I can see it being something for silly / fluffy fun once in a blue moon but as a serious idea it is stupid, it basically takes away an tactical thinking or planning. For Apoc it works because it's meant to be silly and unbalanced but in small games i cannot see the appeal. If I played with a list that had 6 Helldrakes I'd just feel like a tw*t.

Knee jerk reaction perhaps but I can only see negatives. Another thing is objective cards, so the objectives of the game can change each turn. The deck will be 36 cards.
Please excuse my chaotic spelling and grammar, I am Dyslexic, to my friends that means I am retarded and should always wear my water wings and helmet.

Smoke me a kipper i'll be back for breakfast

Id say agree with your opponent beforehand if you want to play forged or unbound to make it less cheesy but i agree with what you are saying about it

Just read the same thing on Beasts if war site. Looks like a way to get the kids involved. Although it does mention that battle bound armies will have some added benefits.
A return to Wallet Hammer. Not sure about the objective cards? The unbound lists might work if only troops continue to be scoring units but this seems to take any tactical reasoning from the game completely. I hope to be proved wrong. We should find out more in white dwarf on the 17th.
Looking again I think this will all be dependant on who you play. I can't imagine anyone who plays standard games now changing to an unbound list other than as a fun quick pick up game.

No salt required, evidence is undeniable.

a new version of the game after only 2 years? oh dear.
Just how much to buy the rule book? what beyond the changes mentioned above will have changed? I'd hoped it was just putting the strongpoint and escalation stuff into the main book, but this sounds like far more, a true new version.

In desperation for ratings have GW finally jumped the shark?

Oh dear. This doesn't bode well does it?

At least the rulebook should be very thin.
Page 1 "Ah **** it, we're too busy rolling in cash to be able to provide you with a playable game - so do what you like"
Pages 2 - 596 "Wow! Look at these amazing models you can buy!*"

* Models will be worthless once the next new thing you can buy is released

I'll reserve judgement until someone else reviews it for me on t'internet. On the plus side, a psychic phase sounds like a good idea (until we see the implementation).

Am I actually bovvered? No, not really, with every passing release and money grab GW becomes a little bit more irrelevant to me. Time since last game - 4(?) months - time to next game - never???

The IG codex is the latest hilarious example of my cynisism toward GW actually being founded. Remove a load of stuff - wait for it to be re-released as a data slate. Cost to the buyer £20ish, cost to GW - £0.

Need to dig my 2nd ed out of the cupboard - it's there somewhere I think. That game was probably as broken as 6th/7th, but at least it was fun. Anyone know any good oldhammer resources?

Even that would need an errata right now

EDIT: I don't think the game needs a Psychic Phase, what it needs is a "Start of Turn" phase that lays out the order to do groups of things like dice reserves, place reserves, cast maledictions/blessings....that would pretty much cover anything not related to whether powers are balanced and that random tables are crap.

There is so much wrong with the game at moment that any 7th ed revelation brings to mind

Okay so:

"You can have a Battle Forged Army which is the simple chart we’ve all come to know and love and adhering to this of course comes with certain benefits."

This could simply be having a balanced list for all we know! Going in for the unbound lists could leave you exposed to an all flier list, or all tank list etc. So, the "bonus" of FoC is you have more balance and defence against any other FoC army.

For now, all we can do is speculate - until we either have more leaks, or GW make a statement.
Apparently Mantic were looking at the "mission cards" for the next Warpath iteration - and James Hewitt has left Mantic to join GW. Coincidence . . . ? ;)

Mission cards work nicely with Deadzone.

The time is too short for James to have taken mission cards with him, besides which the idea isn't original to Mantic and 40k has had them before.

I quite like the idea of Mission cards.

That said, I liked the idea of allies, and look what happened there...
