28/January/2008 - Black Industries Announcement
Black Industries regret to announce that Dark Heresy: Disciples of the Dark Gods out in September will be the final product to be released from Black Industries.

Kevin Rountree General Manager of BL Publishing said ‘As a result of the continued and impressive success of our core novels business, which we have built around 40K and Warhammer, we have decided to focus all of our efforts on growing this part of our business. Black Industries has seen fantastic success, most recently with Talisman and Dark Heresy. This change does not take away from that achievement rather it allows BL Publishing to focus on producing the best novels we can. This is a purely commercial decision and will enable us to carry on the huge growth that we have recently been experiencing with our novels’

For the time being Black Industries will continue to post articles in support of the products on their official website, which is a fantastic resource for scenarios and gaming tools for GM’s and players alike.

No mention of whether they'll be licensing out the RPG material to someone else to produce, but this seems to throw a spanner into their announced plan of 3 different 40k RPGs. I wouldn't be surprised to see Green Ronin, Mongoose Publishing or someone like that try to pick up the license, but it will be a question of whether GW wants to play ball with licensing out the system.

Absolutely Typical! As a fan of the WHFRP system and a GM of some several years experience I have seen the system go through publishers like hogshead, green ronin and BI before - they have a fantastic thing and they have to let it get too unwieldy. The latest version of WHFRP is victim to it's own marketing strategy - the books were too expensive and the promises too big -so many books published so quickly means a mess in aftersales when the supply outways demand. Why don't BL keep supplying the books as produced - they are already part of the same company effectively. Once again a niche market with real support goes under becase they can't find a marketing strategy that doesn't create bigger demands on itself than it's marketing power!
GRRRRR - *rant over*

It is funny that they decided to do it right after they sent all those books out to book stores. Does anyone think GW would license out the RPG?

Being Workshop I doubt it. They must really be having major money problems seeing as they're dropping many things at the mo (specialist games, bitz ordering).

How long till they offically go bust then?

Would anyone here be willing to drop a pound for a pound of peanuts?

Just curious.
