Codexes on GW site

Postby timewizard » Wed Jun 23, 2010 9:30 pm

The GW site's astronomican has 2 old codexes available for download, Codex:Witch Hunters and Codex:Daemonhunters.
They are available here.
Seems mostly just the core rules, they cut out most of the fluff in the codexes.

PDFs have no allies rules - while there is a list of units that can be allied/inducted from SM and IG (and hasn't been changed to match the FAQs), the pages explaining how to take allies, and to allow WH allies in a Marine/IG army, are missing. Looks like GW were a bit too heavy handed with deleting pages.

Agreed, however the quality of the copies is better than some other examples I have seen.
Shame GW decided to post the Codex after some judicious trimming.
The baby is, apparantly, running down the drain with the bath water.
Not completely unexpected though, still waiting for the Tyranid errata and FAQ!

I think that the allies section removal may be intentional... I think that GW have seen the brokenness of the cheap psychic defence & mystic combo that was deliberately left out of the IG being abused in the tournament scene.

Or maybe I'm giving them too much credit.

The fact that allies can't be inducted into the DH codex (but can in the WH codex) leads me to the conclusion that the new DH codex isn't too far off. Or that it's an oversight. Or I'm reading too much into it. Or I need a biscuit & a cup of tea. Most likely the latter.

Shouldn't it be "Codicies on GW site"? :P

I agree a new version must be imminent.

No, it's pseudo-latin, and the majority of cases of codex pluralisation on the GW site say "codexes" :P

As to the DH codex, I hadn't noticed that the inducted allies had been deliberately replaced with at the bottom of the pages. This does lend a lot more weight to allies being gone, and that the WH codex may be the mistake here as the sidebar wasn't covered up while the allies rules page was removed.

GW have it right, it's GW pseud-latin. If it was latin then it would be wrong, but it's not :)

I'd second Ljundhammer on the deliberate.
the mystic combo, and the IST thing have been known to be too good to be true and therefore removed from the optimal blog chatter for a few months now.
Not getting involved in pluralities- even that word is confusing...(really wiki it)

I think the removal of Allies IN SM and IG armies was deliberate. I think the exclusion of inducted troops in DH was a mistake. Fluff and game design says the inducted are supposed to be there for full army composition lists. As it currently sits. A DH Radical Inquisition list cannot include any FA options. This to me seems incorrect. I think they were supposed to leave the WH styled inducted troops in the DH pdf as they are not 'allies' per-se, but instead are added unit options available to inquisitors.

Or maybe the DH codex is a stepping stone to a pure GK codex - dump the inducted units now so when the GK codex hits and GW abandon the DH codex it's not such a big jump. Then release an add-on for the IG codex to allow an Inquisitor + retinue as a HQ choice, and an Assassin as Elite, and everyone's happy (as in GW thinks they're happy, but instead just close their ears to the massive backlash).

I think you may not be far off Spack.

I'm thinking there may be a Codex: Grey Knights, and a Codex: Inquisition and Echlisarchy (I tried spelling that 3 times, it'll have to do!). It'll water down Inquisitors, but to be honest, there are very few different types of Inquisitor build out there that are actually used (I've never seen anyone else use a CC =][=).

I must admit that I can't see allies coming back (exept for maybe inducteds in some form, although I even doubt that), it's a nightmare for balancing codexes...

Don't like the sound of this.
Please GW, don't kill off more of my armies.

I had one used against me once. Of course it was against my Necrons and the Nightbringer. One round of combat and the CC Inq was no more.
