DOW2 retribution. (GAME)

Postby killmaimburn » Sat Jan 01, 2011 10:59 am

Leaked footage, including the baneblades and new variant landraiders..Gosh it looks sexy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpeXR3rLKTI
Also magazine stuff elsewhere on the net has pictures of the inquisition in it.
I've skipped everything since dark crusade.. but I'm kind of tempted to pick up here..
(or maybe just get chaos rising for that whole choosing to be corrupted /go to the dark side story line upgrades instead of goody power upping)
Views, comments and generall kerfluffal.
Barely even lurking..

ive logged about 300 hours on dow2 and chaos rising, stopped playing a few months ago because i kept running into hackers in ranked matches, wasnt fun

im hoping retribution will change things, because those with chaos rising and the first dow2 cant play with retribution players

im also looking forward to Space Marine =)

I thought that was just endemic in any open server? I've never had a fun experience on any competitive online thing, and rarely made awesomeness gaming with someone who collaborated on a mission against the evil AI baddies.(I hear people in car games have generally better experiences)
I either take people in with me and ignore everyone else, or (briefly) I had a friend run a server from his house that only a small group of people used. (appreciate that many modern game systems don't allow this)
My brother in law went through a phase of trolling online FPSs that didn't have a fast enough responses to cheat stuff..he'd go online invisible sniping peeps..I never got that (probably a lot of rage somewhere there).

I hope retribution does what you want for a little while (nothing is ironclad weasel proof :( )

I played DoW2 and while graphically it was nice it didn't feel like 40k - too small a scale with just 1 or 2 squads to control. I skipped Chaos Rising, but Retribution looks like it's getting back to full scale 40k games again (and into Apoc :D) so I might well be tempted to pick this up.

if you ever get back into dow2, drop me a pm and i'll pass on my win live details, could use a third player in our team :P

apparantly retribution will have base building in it again, but, only in the campaign, barracks, vehicle yard etc

its a rumour at best, im yet to see any confirmation

I never seem to find the time to play anything online, and 2 years of DC/DCF as a tester burned me out and put me off online play anyway. I only played the DoW2 single player campaign.

I hear the (internet mandatory) rants about chaos rising that its ok, as long as you don't try to power up through nobility and goodness (e.g. typical post "OMG good librarian sux, corrupted shackle soul chain awesome hellagoodz1111).
Other web rants say its a lot easier to max out the dark side squads (better) powers than the good (less powerfull) stuff.

I've been reading around to attempt to build up enough enthusiasm to take the plunge. :D

From your experience are such rants unfounded?
(Taking it back to blood bowl, we realy found most of the mathammer of the dice rolls wrong in the version before legendary -hence why ljundhammer is moving on to the more races and hopefully better math version)

the dark side thing in chaos risings campaign is totally flexible, say you want cyrus (scout) to go dark side on you, just load him with dark side equipment you pick up along the way, theres no need for others to go chaotic on you

same goes for the librarian, you want his soul chain? send him to vader and send everyone else to yoda

(taking the light/dark side metaphor a bit far there, i know)

but you see my point

if anything, if everyone is dark side, then the last fights will be insanely hard to finish (i know, i stalled out on the last mission because of the debuffs the dark side crap gives)

in the end its your call, i dont listen to game reviews, i play my way, and no one elses, its all perspective on it

but either way you go, the story kicks ass
