S'all about whether you wanna play giants in the playground or not..

The Revenant is still a fair chunk bigger than the Wraithknight, definitely not in proxy scale.

I spent some £. I bought the psychic cards (I do that for every release so not really news).

Iyanden supplement is not up on GW or iTunes?

Lol, I very nearly suggested GW had jumped the shark with this release as well earlier in the week.

Never good when you start from a faulty premise ;)

There's no shark jumping in the SM Codex, which is probably the best Codex GW has ever produced. You let me know how your skirmish game gets on with it's battalion-level models :P

40k isn't skirmish.. how many games of 6th ed have you played to generate your opinions, LHs bitterness comes partially from my (misguidedly)horrific lists and partially from playing the game.

It's not bitterness, it's sadness at the destruction of a once great game.

It's formulaic nonsense now, and the more I see of it the more obvious it is. You need a million troops, but they don't do anything. Everything else is overpowered nonsense which is pathetically obvious in its basic money grabby-ness, or uselessly underpowered showing that the designers have little to no understanding of their own game or how to balance it.

The basic game is unbalanced, and unbalance-able due to the proliferation of different unit types, each with different mechanisms for being defeated, that it is impossible to take an army and have fighting chance against any army you may face. To write a list at 1500 and take that list to a tourney, or to a random flgs is the same as taking the list, but no models and comparing the two to see who would win. There's no skill involved at writing a 'take on anyone' list, as there is always a rock to your list's scissors. There is skill in playing the game where 2 armies are evenly matched, but that's pretty rare - and even in that case it's simply a grind feat of rolling dice until your opponents troops are dead.

I expect at about 3000 points these problems disappear, and given the models and codexes being released, I think I'll not be far off the mark to assume that GW would love for people to get to this position. The game is now everything I hated about apocalypse, endless troops that do nothing but must be killed with broken support units that wipe entire opposition armies off the table with little threat of reprisal.

I enjoyed 5th when the power spiral dictated buy a few more transports as it makes your troops good, although it did get stale by the end. I'm not going to get involved in a power spiral of spending hundreds of pounds on troops that do nothing, then hundreds of pounds on the big new unkillable monster/tank/whatever. That's what fantasy is for...

Well I've not seen the Tau Codex so I can't comment about their massive battlesuit titan-y thing and whether its OP or not. But ****** that Eldar thing is massive. I dread to think how many points its going to be. How long until everyone gets a quasi titan? Think I have to agree to a point with LH on the power creep thing, it started with the flyers and now it seems its going to carry on with these massive things. I blame the Grey Knights! Still I'm a stubborn git so I'll persevere trying to make an all comers list. Well that and I've spent far too much time and money on the hobby!

£20.50 for 5, yes five of the repackaged dire avengers.

Everything else had my eyes rolling apart from the old jetbikes repackaged into a bundle. All the new bike bundles appear to actually save you money!! 8O
In the bundle the jetbikes are £20 for 3 which compares quite well to the first release back in 2nd ed of IIRC £5 each. It would appear there is a tiny shred of sanity at GW HQ. Pity its been steamrolled by the rest of the eldar prices. I will concede that wraith guard are now a bit cheaper than they were before. However considering that price was sky high and the new boxset is still bloody expensive its little consolation.
Any lingering hopes I had of an Iyaden ghost warrior army have been put on the same never ever pile as my planned high elf army and tau army.
I'm actually dreading further tyranid releases to be honest.
My regular eldar opponent is not impressed at all. I guess he might pick up the codex.

I have no new eldar (wellapart from the GW staff handout stuff somewhere).. but since the entirety of this forum seems not to play anything and only threads about hawking their wares and price moaning..I might as well fall into the trap for a good discussion and be schooled by the economists.

5x3=15 run through generic inflation calculator for 2nd ed(1993) equals 24.27.. so they take a £5 hit for each unit sold which they push over to direavengers (speculative--mostly due to bikes being harder to put cool stuff on in this edition..).
INB4 economies of scale ;)

I mentioned stuff in other games systems as a context for specifics overiding generic and them being basically on par.. £70 for using a humoungous sexy titan, vs hawk games charging £90 for one art deco commercial building, no awesome weapon options, no customising bits http://www.hawkwargames.com/products/ar ... building-1 (yeah they are slightly more friendly to their player base officially endorsing the papercraft alternatives but still context)..
If we ignore the whole venture capital financing system of games as a price comparision, what are you paying for 28-30mm highdetail squads at the mo..$60 for 10 etc? http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/ga ... ss-hunters
Don't hunt for obscure games quarterly on a basement run, look for a general product follow through its links and post results..
I accept a counter could be had that GW sets the prices and the others follow, ebay and proxy likes certainly appear to..you now have to hunt for the ebay items at 3 am that have been ignored, the gaming system designed to ape GW that hasn’t been busted or upped its prices yet.
(This isn’t me saying this thread doesn’t deserve some price bashing, rumours on prices is the only legit place for price moans)
Stick around to watch KMB be schooled in 5…4…3…. :D

Cost per unit is the same as ever, and comparable to other systems. My issue is now that you need more units than before, and many, many more than other gaming systems. Unit price is a poor indicator, army price + rule book price is a better measure.

GW & PP are much of a muchness for thus at the moment.
