Forge World Caestus Assault Ram

Space Marine Caestus Assault Ram
The speartip of our Space Marine releases is the intimidating Caestus Assault Ram. This hulking full resin kit, designed by Daren Parrwood, is armed with a devastating Magna-Melta, designed to carve through the hull of a mighty star ship, and wing-mounted Firefury missile Assault Ram in use across the Imperium, but among the Space Marine Chapters, the multi-role Caestus is the most commonplace. Smaller than either the Thunderhawk Gunship or the Shark-class Boarding Torpedo, the patterns' chief advantage is its speed and phenomenal durability which make it a highly resilient assault craft, even in the most fire-swept landing zones. Compact and heavily armoured, the Caestus Assault Ram is designed to survive direct collision with an enemy, leaving only ruin in its wake.

LOOKS CRAP! £92 EAT ME!

I think it looks like what it's intended for - a no nonsense brutal assault. I will not be getting one if they are £92 though.

Another unstoppable, beyond the bell curve, marine delivery system. Yeah - because that's just what they need.

*Edit*
Just read the rules on it - Hereok I know they are experimental but they outline my point above: Flat out speed of 36", Deepstrike, Melta-template weapon, can carry 10 marines or 10 terminators, assault ramps for the cheese assault at 24", oh and it's melta proof so you can't kill it easily at armour 13. And all that for less than the price of a land raider.

Rubbish.

If it moved 24" the models inside could not get out.

It's worse than a melta-template Herne, it's a large blast marker, range 18" S8 AP1!

And as Matt said, models couldn't disembark if it went over 12". But at that, move 12", fire the melta weapon, disembark assault troops, YIKE 8O

Or Tank shock or Ram at 36" with a 5+ save!! DOUBLE YIKE 8O 8O

Won't be seeing it on my gameboard anytime soon, especially not at that price.

But I'll bet we'll be seeing some scratchbuilds comin up! 8)

Looks very tempting for Blood Angel players to me as a Stormraven but a hefty £92. Why bother with resin, make this out of plastic and ask £40-£50 and they will sell plenty.

Considering they're about the size of a Land Raider, and they go for 37.50 (in pounds, don't have a pound symbol  ) then 40 to 50 sounds about right.
Unfortunately, unless they (the Caestus) are or become a regular codex item where everyone (just about) will be looking to field them, there won't be enough call to go through the expense of making up a mold for them.
So it's either resin, at a high cost, or a test of one's scratchbuilding skills.

Well it states:
A Caestus Assault Ram is a Fast Attack choice in a Space Marines, Black
Templars, Space Wolves or Dark Angels army.

So everyone but Blood Angels, who already have the Stormraven.
Time to start working out how to scratchbuild (luckily due to being forgeworld not legal for tournaments).

The melta weapon might be nicer if it had alternative firing modes:

Full focus = used for cutting into the target prior to an assault
As multi-melta

Spread focus = used to clear away enemy troops but loses the melta rule
24" S6 AP3 Small Blast
or
24" S4 AP4 Large Blast

Do something like that and also switch back to having terminators cost 2 models (that seems a silly change to allow 10 to be transported) and I think it would be far more acceptable.

The MkIII ‘Iron’ Armour is a variant of the previous ‘Crusade’ pattern adapted with additional armour plates to the front, as well as a reinforced helmet faceplate and strengthened vambraces for the savage firefights of fleet-based boarding actions. This extra armour turns an already resilient Marine into an almost unstoppable juggernaut within the cramped confines of a ship.

The full resin kit provides enough parts to build 5 Space Marines in MkIII ‘Iron’ Armour, including two different sets of legs, shoulder pads, arms, torsos and helmets.

A little better at £20

No weapons though! That's another £9 if you want the authentic, contemporary ones.

or use the extended character map.

To get a £ - hold down Alt and type 0163 on the numberpad

To find out more numbers for other weird symbols that you might need to use regularly go to Character Map under system tools in windows and it gives you the complete set. You can also copy and paste from it. Very handy when I need umlauts and other weirdness....Þßàæą¶¢ƍƟƉɆɯɰɱɤ
