Forge World Newsflash (Re: VAT Reduction)

Forge World Will be Passing on UK Tax Reduction to its Customers
Recently, the UK Government has decided to reduce the rate of Value Added Tax (the UK sales tax) on all products subject to it by 2.5%, reducing it from 17.5% to 15%.

As a result Forge World will be passing on the effect of this reduction to all its customers with immediate effect, which will be represented by a reduction in our prices. All orders placed on our online store from now on will be processed and charged at these new lower rates, (except for our book products, which are not subject to VAT.)

This is great news for all our customers worldwide, because although this is a UK tax change, we have decided to apply these new lower prices to all the orders placed directly with Forge World, not just those from within the UK. This means that Forge World models are now lower in price for everyone.

You can see our new prices on our webstore, Here.

If you have any further questions or queries on this, please feel free to contact our sales and customer services team on 0115 9168177 from within the UK, or on 01144 115 9168177 from the US and Canada, or 0044 115 9168177 from Europe. Our lines are open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday UK time.

i know its only a small amount (for example, £8 eched brass appears to be down by 15p), but its still good news, eh?
(i assume they could have chosen to pocket the difference...)

hope this helps :)

I think its a nice goodwill gesture. They didn't have to do it, and I think it will grab them a few more sales.

Well given that the etched brass should be wown by 20p, 2.5p in the pound is the reduction.

They don't have to pass it on, but its very bad publicity if they fail to do so.

Waiting to see if GW follow suit...

The reduction is 2.13p (2.5/117.5 =2.13) :)

Assuming you only really round at the end, 15p is the corect amount if the original price was £8.

What most people forget is that the reduction is not 2.5% of the gross price but only on the part which is VAT. As Baragash shows, it equates to approx 2.13% reduction on the original gross price.

Even the BBC news page got it wrong when they were showing examples of what new prices might be.

That's what my company is doing, 2% off at the till (we can only do whole %s  ), because of the vast cost of changing our fixed price signage like GW would have to.

I had to fight down my accounting urge to write to half a dozen newspapers this week and correct them for making that mistake......

At work (Computer Manuals/Bookfellas/Sprintbooks/Microsoft Press UK, for those readers who don't know me) we've yet to see what 2 of the UK book wholesalers will be doing, but we've already heard from the 3rd that we use - they're pushing the exvat prices of products up so that the inc vat RRP remains the same as it is at 17.5%, which means we can't drop the prices on anything because we're having to pay more for them from Monday.

While most of the stuff we sell doesn't have VAT (books being VAT exempt), there are still a large number that do have VAT (audio books, online training courses, books that come with other items such as cds/dvds/toys/etc). Not only is Monday going to be a hectic day for me (we have over 1000 different VAT rates on our system to adjust along with the price changes), but I envisage see that the sales dept will be getting numerous phone calls asking why none of our prices have gone down.

This whole VAT drop is a messy publicity stunt that at the end of the day benefits very few people, and in many supply chains will benefit the "middle men" and screw over the manufacturers and the retailers :(

Nice to see FW making the small change to their prices, whether GW drop their RRP or not remains to be seen.

Yeah, my best mate works at Tesco HO, they were on the ball adjusting prices by Wednesday.

M&S will pass on the full discount, but their systems won't be ready on time.

Other retailers confirmed: Currys, Dixon Group (PC World etc), John Lewis, HRG (Argos/Homebase).
