FW #236 - Imperial Armour Volume 8

Postby Spack » Fri May 07, 2010 5:55 pm

Hi There,
In this Newsletter we can proudly announce the release of the latest Imperial Armour book, Volume 8: Raid on Kastorel-Novem. This fantastic book describes the Imperial campaign against the Ork invaders of this vital industrial world, and contains full rules and background for all our recent releases along with a plethora of full colour profiles and illustrations. We can also announce details of more exciting events that we will be attending in the coming months.

Thanks,
Ead Brown

Imperial Armour 8: Raid on Kastorel-Novem available to order now!

We are proud to announce that our newest Imperial Armour book is available to order now for immediate release. Waaagh! Garaghak has taken several key Imperial worlds across the Forsarr sector and invaded the primary Hive World in a storm of violence. Intelligence gleaned by Raven Guard scouts indicate that a twisted Ork genius known as Buzzgob lies behind the war machines of the Waaagh! and so a plan is formed to eliminate this Big Mek and disrupt or destroy his creations.

This fantastic 224 page book, written by Warwick Kinrade and Alan Bligh, details the daring raid into Ork territory planned and executed by the Space Marines of the Raven Guard chapter and the 181st Elysian Drop Regiment. The full colour book is comprehensively illustrated with over 150 illustrations, profiles, technical drawings and vehicle profiles for Elysian Drop Troops and Raven Guard as well as the Goff, Evil Sunz, and Death Skullz Ork clans. Click here to view sample page spreads of the new book.

Imperial Armour Volume 8: Raid on Kastorel-Novem also provides a complete Elysian Drop Troop army list - including rules for the Vulture Gunship, Valkyrie Sky Talon and Tauros and Tauros Venator Assault Vehicles. This army list brings the brave sons of Elysia into line with the current Imperial Guard Codex. You will also find background on the enigmatic Raven Guard Chapter as well as rules for a new special character, Shadow-Captain Korvydae. Ork players will find an entirely new Dread Mob army list that contains full rules for the entire range of Forge World Ork models (and lots of Mega-Dreads, Dreads and Kans!). There are also new Apocalypse Battle Formations and a full campaign system to re-fight the desperate conflict on Kastorel-Novem.

Click here to order the new book – it’s available for immediate despatch, and every book comes with a double-sided Ork poster, featuring fantastic art by the talented Paul Bonner, that can be ordered separately here. The first 500 copies ordered will be signed by Warwick Kinrade. Anyone who has already placed a pre-order for the new book at any of the events we have attended so far this year will also receive a highly desirable signed copy of the book

It looks like it's already out of stock according to the Forgewold order page. I hope that my order got in before they ran out - or that a restock is coming real soon...

It actually arrived yesterday - I had it delivered to work rather than home, and it was sat here when I came in this morning. The Elysian list has not disappointed - Vultures are Heavy rather than Fast Attack, and Sky Talons are Heavy but do not use up a FOC, so I guess I need more aircraft :D

It does seem to be a (physically, not spg, c&p etc) higher quality of publication than the previous books in the series.

Ofc mine is signed too ;)

Is the book worth it if you're only really interested in the RavenGuard stuff?

How much of the Ravenguard stuff in the book is fluff and how much is 'rules'? The impression I'm getting is the only rules bit is the special character?

I'm hearing that he allows you to take assault squads as troops on the provision that there is atleast one squad of scouts in the list, is this correct? Am I missing anything else?

Edit (fixed the squad = scouts :D )

You're impression is correct (I assume the second "squads" should have said Scouts ;) )

He also grants his squad H&R (EDIT: if they have JPs).

I can see the matt cover being an issue for people who take their books to gaming clubs regularly, it's going to be harder to clean when it picks up dirt. But apart from the odd typos yet again (eg. Elysian Vet squad profiles are wrong, they've been copy-pasted from the Infantry Command Squad; Infantry Command squad appears to have wrong WS for Commissar, and a HW team profile when they can't take a HW ...) the quality is very high.

Ohhh I'd forgotten why I was interested in this one.. Doh.
Can you stilll take a fleet enabling shrike?
I don't mind if 1 unit of scoutsis the downside (I quite like storm scouts these days)..
I'll be keeping half an eye out for the double dohhhhh moment though, (redscorpian seargents not being allowed to take fists if medics...booo)

There's no RG list as such, just a SC that allows you to play a "normal" RG army (Shrike's rules don't represent that).

The dedicated transport (or not) options in the Elysian list are wildly inconsistent in the way they are written.

There's a couple of Ork armour values where it would have been useful to say that "yes, we meant this to be slightly different despite being the same chassis".

I also wondered if there's a mistake on the Mekboy Stompa. Normal Stompa has TCCW and 4 attacks (states included in profile IIRC), Mek Stompa doesn't have TCCW and also has 4 attacks. IIRC taking a TCCW adds +3 attacks does it not?
