FW #265 - Eldar Wasp Walker, Ultramarines Transfers

Postby Spack » Fri Feb 18, 2011 5:31 pm

Hi There,

We have another new Eldar release in this week’s Newsletter, along with an addition to our range of decal sheets. We’re also opening the floor to your questions for a forthcoming designer interview for our YouTube channel, and reservation orders are now being taken for the Forge World Open Day, held at Warhammer World on Sunday the 3rd of April.

Thanks,
Ead Brown

Eldar Wasp Assault Walker
Commonly found amongst the raiding forces of the Eldar Corsairs, the Eldar Wasp Assault Walker confers additional protection and manoeuvrability to the pilot. Jump jets are added to the sturdy War Walker chassis to bolster this already potent weapons platform with deceptively swift movement.
The Eldar Wasp Assault Walker, designed by Will Hayes, is a complete resin and plastic kit. Full background and technical details for this unique addition to the Eldar arsenal will be printed in the forthcoming Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara, but as an advanced preview, these experimental rules are available to download.

The Eldar Wasp Assault Walker is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing the 28th February, and we have lots more Eldar releases to come over the next few months so keep an eye out for future Newsletters.

Ultramarines Transfer Sheet
The latest addition to Forge World’s range of A4 decal sheets is this Ultramarines Transfer Sheet designed by Paul Rudge. Packed with over 750 individual squad designations and markings; blazons, chapter heradlry and squad numbers, as well as larger vehicle markings, and three sizes of trim suitable for use on banners or cloak hems, this transfer sheet is perfect for adding individual detail to Ultramarines miniatures.

The Ultramarines Transfer Sheet is available to pre-order now for despatch in the week commencing the 28th of February.

Designer Interviews on the Forge World Visual Feed – Eldar!
With over 10,000 views of our three-part Badab War Interview, we’re planning a series of new interviews to tie into the future release of Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara.

The first in this series will feature an interview with the model designer of our forthcoming Phantom Titan, Will Hayes, and the man behind bringing it to life with a superb paint scheme, Phil Stutcinskas.

So if you’ve ever wanted to know how our Eldar releases are taken from a concept sketch to a finished resin kit, or how the colour scheme for the new Eldar Craftworld was devised, then this is your chance to find out. Please send an e-mail entitled ‘Imperial Armour 11 Interview’ to Forgeworld@games-workshop.co.uk, enclosing your name and specifying which designer your question is for.

Forge World Open Day Reservation Orders Now Being Taken
Sunday April 3rd 2011 will see the entire Forge World team descend on Warhammer World here in Nottingham for our annual Open Day, which will again be free to attend.

There will be two studio stands at this year’s Open Day, allowing both the Forge World and Warhammer Forge teams to fully showcase work-in-progress projects, recently released kits and even a few forthcoming models that haven’t yet been announced. Also occupying the two Studio stands will be the Forge World Book Design team, who will be showcasing proof copies of both Imperial Armour Volume 11: The Doom of Mymeara and Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos.

We will also be bringing you a sales stand packed with the Forge World and Warhammer Forge range, our Charity Titan Raffle, fantastic participation games and our annual Open Day Painting Competition, which will be judged on the day. Entries should consist of a single Forge World miniature or vehicle, which may be mounted on a display base if you wish.

A Reservation order is the best way of guaranteeing that we’ll have exactly the models you wish to purchase, and as mentioned in previous Newsletters, we are making a few changes to the process to make it easier and more convenient to collect your reservation. We will be taking payment for reservation orders in advance, which will allow us to set up a collection point for these orders that is totally separate from our main Sales stand. This will help to minimise the amount of time spent queuing as you’ll be free to collect your order whenever you like and enjoy the main event.

To place an Open Day reservation, please contact the Forge World Customer Service Team on 0115 916 8177 between 9am and 6pm UK time Monday to Friday and between 9am and 5pm UK time on Saturday.

We will need your name, a contact telephone number and e-mail address, and we will charge your card and provide an order number for your records.
Shortly before the Open Day you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation which you must bring with you in order to collect your reservation. If you have any queries, please either contact us by telephone or send an e-mail to ForgeworldReservations@games-workshop.co.uk.

Having trouble with 50 man guard squads that don't run away? No Problem for new WASP away. Simply charge the unit from 30" away and pin them in combat with a single 55pt walker (also a troops choice) Unless they spent the points for Kraks they cannot touch you an you are stuck until you charge with something else or break them (on 1 wound needed).

If someone can find me an electron-microscope I might find some sympathy for the 50-man blob.... nah ;)

Surprised it's not a FA choice TBH. Damnit FW, show something original for me to drool over!

So it's an upgraded War Walker
+1 BS, can deep-strike and do funky 24" jet flight (note not a turbo boost so do you get a cover save?) and assault, and is purchased in the Troop section (but is a vehicle so can't claim objectives)
But lose Scout
Costing base 45pts than 30pts

I love Forge World but at £25 a model, I'd rather spend a little more and get the Eldar Hornet.

£25 is expensive, but then the standard plastic kit war walker is £18.50 these days from GW's web. Really can't understand the troops option short of an excuse to give the eldar yet something else that can hide around at the back of the board and then steal a game by leaping onto objectives at the last moment. (No no mr Imperial - I insist you have the first turn...)

Hate playing against Eldar, but love using them. From that angle - I like the wasp. 24" move and still charge seems a bit OTT though, but then you won't often want to be charging an armour 10 walker. (Just adding to the comment above IIRC 50 guardsmen in a blob means 50 frag grenades to hit mad walker with. (4+D6 - that's a lot of glancing hits - a few 6's means immobilised and weapon damaged results mounting up to a pop.) That does tame it down a little.
