HAPPY 25TH!

Postby Talus » Sat Feb 25, 2012 12:55 pm

Ok so the celebrations are rather poor for it, but lets all give Warhammer 40k a round of applause for turning 25 today!

and i guess it goes to show, the best stuff was made in '87 ;)

if you attended a store today, show off your loot!

yeah muggins here came away with a couple of the bands (too small for my wrist though, but they'll make nice key rings!), a poster and a few books!

sadly they were out of the pin badges, so if anyone has one they dont want, let me know! i'll gladly take it off your hands!

Wow, so that's 24 years since I first picked up some 40k figs ... for a bit of nostalgia, here's some figs I have from the 80s and 90s :)

I've got a lot more, but these are some of the best examples of classic GW figures. I've also got a few non-40k figs too - Chainsaw Warrior (released just after the boardgame), 2000AD figs - Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog - and some Fantasy such as the Motley Maniac Deathjester.

Nice stuff Spack! Thanks for sharing.

Though...that first shot of the Novamarine Terminator, can't shake the feeling that I've seen it somewhere before!

I was late to the party - 1988 was my first encounter with 40k. I'd already been playing RPGs like Runequest and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (and still have the original 1st ed WHFRP rulebook in my gaming stuff, along with the first 3 scenario packs). I also ended up getting Adeptus Titanicus (along with the WD articles adding troops and vehicles which made it an early version of Space Marine/Epic 40k), Blood Bowl, and of course Space Hulk. I had to travel 10 miles to the nearest gaming store, and most of the stuff they had was US RPGs and cyberpunk, and Ral Partha/TSR figs, Citadel/GW was just a couple of shelves.

Talus, nope, that "raider" (it's a Spartan terminator command tank conversion from an old WD issue) is staying firmly put, along with it's unmodified sibling ;)

And how could I miss including Harlequins in my post, it's still one of my favourite boxed sets

At some point I'll dig out the old boxes and collect pics of them, I have a habit of keeping them all - along with the Harlies I've got the original Terminator boxed set, the Deathwing termies box, and boxes for the 2nd ed Ultramarine and Blood Angels Dreadnoughts, and Ultramarines and Blood Angels squads. I've probably got a few more 1st/2nd ed boxes kicking around but my memory isn't as good as it was ...

I've got all the original harlequins too ready to paint up at some point. If I could do an all harlequin army I would do. It's the only Eldar list I've ever wanted to do.

I started a bit earlier than 1987 but with Fighting Fantasy books and their like and a box of D&D.

I'm a young pup, relatively speaking. I joined with the 2nd Ed box set. First models I bought were 2 Ork Meks. I have them somewhere. Will try and dig them out. The painting will be awful, but the models were great!

Then I'm a much younger pup than you!
I started 40K with the BFM box set, marines vs tyranids, 4th edition.

Always liked making plastic models and I liked the old cardboard counter wargames, so it seemed a nautral.

I started collecting in 2nd ed. But didn't start learning the game until 3rd ed. Still have a few of the older piece knocking about. But not a lot.

I picked up 40k 2nd ed, Dark Millennium, and a load of figs at the GW Wolverhamption Grand Opening back in the 90s - never did get around to playing 2nd ed though, ended up selling it all about 10 years later ...
